One advantage to being Lyra - you don't have to worry much about negotiations turning hostile. The Triarch himself can attend any meeting, any council or treatise. In fact, he can attend a dozen of them at once. If it's a trap and he is blown to pieces, he will arrive in the central palace the next morning regardless. If he is kidnapped, the Grid's manifolds will be withdrawn and the enemy will learn nothing from the lifeless, mindless husk they are left with. Not that they'll have long to try before that husk explodes.
I wonder if the same is true for these Planta I am meeting with. Not the exploding - although their warrior strains have certainly been seen using explosive acidic sacs and other chemical propellants - but the collective mindspace and multividuality that would make any member of the race as capable of representing their whole civilization as a Lyra. The Planta certainly seem to move and act with uncannily synchronized purpose. But on the other gluva, that could just be due to a rapid communication form that neither I nor the Grid have the senses to detect.
The green, blue and violet bioform across the table rustles its ferns, producing a rapid sequence of clicks and buzzes. Communication at this meeting has been... difficult. The Lyra are unused to deciphering language from sounds, especially not as rapidly as the Planta seem to emit them. At the same time, most of the Planta possess no visual organs with which to observe the motions of the Lyra language. Thankfully, the Magellan arbitrator brought by the Planta delegate appears to have 34 discrete sensory organs, and is able to translate very efficiently.
I did make a slight dip into the nearest shrine's hyperplexion conduits for a brief sublimation of the arbitrator - just enough to ensure that he was translating things accurately - then reversed the local continuum field to undo it.
With the translation problems taken care of, and myself reassured that these races are trustworthy, negotiations are now proceeding in earnest. Perhaps we three races can establish a truly harmonous co-civilization, an example for all the rest of the galaxy.
INFluence Delta Eridani and Lambda Tauri. Colonize the two science slots. Flip up two colony ships.
Extend offer of diplomatic relations to the Magellan.
Extend official wishes to join alliance to the Planta. If the Magellan accept diplomatic relations, also extend these wishes to the Magellan (technically Tapper here can refuse the diplomatic relations, but still allow me to join a Tapper-Khell alliance through my relations with Khell, as long as both are already in an alliance and both agree to it - I guess this would be useful if Tapper wants more space for rep tiles instead of another ambassador).
