Vengy didn't need to upgrade the starbase. Having gained valuable bankruptcy experience in the iOS game, I think it's safe to say Twelve is toasted. He can't afford to influence the hex. His upkeep is -21 with $5 banked and 18 income. He only has two mats so can't gain money that way. He can't do another reaction at all or he'll flat out bankrupt.

That last gluon computer sealed his fate.

He can colonize next turn, right?
It will cost him an influence action then, but I guess the more important thing right now is keeping access to the remainder of the board if he wins and the supernova blows up.

He can do one more move, the one of the hexes would be bankrupt and the 3 planets can go back to materials. He will have no production for the next round but at least he will have ships on the other side of the super nova. He can influence first turn next turn maybe unless Vengrief influence first. He needs those ships intact though otherwise he is screwed. One of them left alive is not enough.

In our game on sunday I drew Orion. By the end of the game I had scored 58 points, and was 20 points ahead of second place.

That was fun. Letting Orion expand centerwards while closing off all other access points to their space is crazy.

He can influence next time if there's not a hostile ship in the hex. Veng will get an action before Twelve. He can move the cruiser into that hex first move. Or just shit three ships in Twelve's ex homeworld.

Tatts, I know it's tossing out a couple of VP but you and he exchanging ambassadors is probably a good idea. Give him another money cube.

Yeah sure, when it comes round to me I will exchange ambassadors with him. I will probably burn a materials cube.

I finally won an iOS game against the computer. Played 6 factions, all Terrans, all AI at hardcore. Incidentally, only in this game did I realise that hardcore AI starts with a dreadnaught (!). I knew I had no hope matching them early on, so I managed to temporarily wall myself off with an ancient hex and then expanded outwards. I watched enviously as the others tore through the ancients in the first couple of rounds. However, that bought me the time to plonk down all 4 starbases in the only entry into my space. An incursion of 2 dreads was swiftly defeated with no losses. After that, I sat back and watched the most chaotic, brutal game I have ever witnessed, as the galaxy descended into anarchy outside of my bottleneck. The GC changed hands every single turn. Factions would be driven back to a single hex only to rise up again. Neutron bombs and missiles wiped out billions of lives.

Meanwhile I continued exploring outwards and defeating ancients. My homeworld was my most central hex, and not once did I venture further inward than it. Along with two other factions, I built monuments in the final round. The worst massacres yet followed as all the factions vied for the monument hexes. Aside from mine, at the far tail end of the galaxy, ensuring me victory with only a single fight with another faction (and no hexes conquered) all game.

If the devs of this would port the game to Android it would absolutely be a "shut up and take my money' moment for me. I'd pay up to $10 even. Is the AI half decent most of the time or does it do a lot of dumb stuff?

Would it matter? We could fucking play each other. If it had an "add friend" feature. That'd just be awesome.

At £5, it's the most I've ever paid for an app by some distance.

The AI is not dumb by any means, but it also definitely has quirks which can be easily exploited after a few games - like never ever reacting after they pass. And it is highly predictable in the tech it goes after. But on the whole it is pretty good and still entertaining, though I would still much rather play with actual humans. Unfortunately, I still haven't been able to get a game.

But I have to say, the way the game has been designed for the tablet is absolutely fantastic.

With the ultra low number of players online, it wouldn't be very hard to find each other :p
