Morgoth, a switch to more military strategy may be in order now. With IH and jump drive, we're definitely vulnerable.

Although, before you just decide to take ancient orbital as VP, remember that it has an artifact marker. It could be more worth your while to use it with artifact key for a production bonus - which may be in order if IH is eyeing our squishy hexes.

@Morgoth again

Just seeing here on the map, not as dire as I thought. We just need to be ready for defense of psi capricorni and Alpha Centauri. Hardly a gaping hole in the defenses, considering the large amount of moves required to get anything of consequence across the gap. Reading up quickly on the jump drive rules, it appears that its use requires a separate activation, and must take the place of another ship component (but not the regular drive).

So for IH to move a single cruiser into Alpha Centauri (which he could do) it would use up an entire move action plus an upgrade to put a more combat ready part in its place after the move.

No, jump drive can be the only drive on a blueprint.

Not quite. The Jump Drive is just like any other drive component - each time you "use an arrow" from a MOVe action on a ship, each drive applies once. The Jump Drive works just like a Nuclear Drive, only it can go across half-wormholes or non-wormholes.

ie:

"use an arrow" on a cruiser that has a Tachyon Drive and a Nuclear Drive - the cruiser can move 4 hexes normally

"use an arrow" on a cruiser that has a Jump Drive and a Nuclear Drive - the cruiser can move 1 hex normally, then 1 hex over any border (in either order)

"use an arrow" on a cruiser that has a Jump Drive and a Tachyon Drive - the cruiser can move 3 hexes normally and 1 hex over any border (in any order)

"use an arrow" on a cruiser that has only a Jump Drive - the cruiser can move 1 hex over any border

Oh, right. Sorry. I read that totally wrong. I was paying attention to the example case in the rules and thought it was saying he had to use 2 move actions...he only had to use two "arrows" from a single move action. Got it.

EDIT

Just realized that moving a single space in the phrase "Got it"

changes it to GO TIT.

boobs....funny.

Humh, so if I chose to keep the ancient orbital, 105 will count as containing two artifacts?

Hey IH, if I influence Iota Bootis, would you like to have diplomatic relations?

Indeed it will. I guess it just comes down to whether you think the 5 extra materials will be crucial in you making up the 2VP you lose from placing the orbital. Considering your materials pinch, dropping an artifact key and getting 10 materials could be very beneficial for you. Basically 2 rounds' production in one go. It also gives you the chance to fortify out front and keep pressure on IH in case he gets any funny ideas.

But then, 2 perma VPs is a pretty sweet deal all told.

I'd say if Morgoth is planning on researching Orbital tech anyways it's not worth taking the ancient orbital, but if not and he will utilize the orbital and/or the artifact then it is worth it.

2 VP vs 5 resources is cheap - most VP cost around 4 or more resources (ie Ancient Monument = 4.3 resources per VP)

yeah, good point. I wonder what the average combat VP costs, when you consider all the mixed probabilities RE rep draws and usual distribution of hex point values. I'd like to see somebody figure that out.

@Khell and Tapper, are you guys okay with me not doing much this round? I can get a lot of resource tweaking and preparation done, but it will use up most of my actions. I'll be able to do a few reactionary measures, like building 3 starbases in Rigel, but not a ton of guerilla maneuvering as before. I think with Tapper grabbing the GC and Khell make his big maneuver last round we mostly want to sit tight on our borders this round anyways. If you guys think you can handle the borders this round I promise I'll have lots to give next round!

If you include everything, it's probably pretty expensive on average since the techs get quite pricey and tech VP only goes up a little each purchase.

But as far as the more conventional pay-resources-get-rep things - ie developments, VPs, racial bonuses - I'd say the average is around 3 or 4. The more expensive ones *usually* are more than just VPs, like the Exiles orbitals are 6 resources for 1 VP, but are also a cube slot and a fighting ship.

OTOH, ambassadors don't cost anything directly and give you a free VP!
