Did anyone else watch it? I've not seen an episode of Homeland yet, but I heard that show's writer wrote this episode, which makes sense since it was based on that show.

The episode had the surreal feel of 23 Short Stories About Springfield episode and the humor was and tone were quite subversive and kinda dark. If they can repeat this, then I'll go back to being a faithful watcher. I've said before that the show should just quit, but I will totally take that back if they can sustain this momentum.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

At 25 seasons in, this show is just a caricature of itself that people don't watch out of any desire to be entertained anymore....and FOX refuses to let it die because it's the only show they still have that people can properly recognize.

Sometime in the last couple years, they did an episode where the opening sequences was changed into a Ke$ha music video. No matter how good reviews for any particular season or episode might be now, some principles just cannot be crossed, so no new Simpsons for me!

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

I understand you both, believe me I really do. I almost didn't watch it, except for that it automatically came on Hulu after my wife was finished watching The Mindy Project while I was reading The Blade Itself. I started getting a headache and put the book down for minute while I gave the show some attention. I have to give credit where credit is due. I pretty much gave up on this show over a decade ago, and any viewing since then was older episodes on DVD, or incidental and accidental happenstance. This one was different. It was good.

Also. RE: Ke$ha.

DYK that she scored a 1500 on her SATs and was accepted to Barnard and studied comparative religion? Not bad for a girl who grew up without her dad.

"That is my gift to the world, I probably look like an asshole. I'm not saying I look cool, but every single time I go onstage, it is a fail if I don't feel like I'm going to pass out at least twice."

At least she is self-aware. Still, her music is shit.

Next week is the Treehouse of Horror episode. Guillermo del Toro is directing the couch gag in the opening credits. Should be fun stuff.

Still enjoy the show. Can't expect them to reach past standards but things have been better in the past few years. No clip shows, no 'Marge and Homer Turn a Couple Play' level of poor quality (that, at least, is my least favourite episode - feel free to share you own!). Not saying it's amazing but its usually good fun. Better consistency than recent Family Guy certainly; as good as recent South Park at times. But maybe I'm just too relaxed and forgiving and not constantly trying to find reasons to dislike shows or trying to discover something unspoiled and perfect that no-one else's gaze has polluted yet.

I can dig it. Family Guy has been meh lately. American Dad is as good as ever though. I have trouble keeping up with South Park in a timely matter. I keep forgetting they still make new episodes. TBH, my animation watching has decreased significantly since I rid myself of the cable television oligopoly albatross. But in the back of my mind I always felt that Simpsons, if any show, had the best chance for a resurrection. Fingers crossed.

That opening was like the end of a first season episode of Superjail. I absolutely loved it. The episode itself wasn't too shabby either. Did anyone else notice a little theme of decapitation? Still, its easy to be absurd on a Treehouse of Horror episode, so I'll watch a few more episodes to see how it all seems to be going before I decide that they have redeemed themselves.

Say what you will about the current state of the Simpsons, The Treehouse of Horrors episode is always required viewing for me. I loved how the first vignette paid homage to one of the cheese fests of the 70s (staring football player Rosey Grier), The Man with Two Heads.

[EDIT] Had to IMDB the movie, it's actually titled 'The Thing with Two Heads'

Treehouse of Horror can be inconsistent but I do regard 'Citizen Kang' as quite possibly the Simpsons' finest 7-8 minutes.

Oh god. I just now found out about this.

Twenty Five YEARS????

This is worse than hearing the music that was going to send me to hell when I was a teenager playing in grocery stores and doctor's offices.

This is worse than remembering when Saturday Night Live was funny.

I haven't watched in like 15 years, but funny enough, I still quote the show constantly based off of the first 10ish years of viewing.

I read a "news" article a ways back saying that a character was going to be killed off this season, has that happened yet and if so who was it?

It hasn't happened yet but speculation is that it's Apu since Hank Azaria said he's sick of doing him after having heard some compelling arguments against the outdated stereotypical characterization and the accent. I hate to say "outdated" cuz the stereotype wasn't funny 25 years ago either, but in a cultural zeitgeiesty way I guess it applies.

Set your DVRs. The Lego Simpsons episode airs this Sunday. Should be a lot of fun.
