Titanfall Yes, it's an FPS

So, Titanfall is the new game from the creators of COD4:Modern Warfare and most of MW2.

This is honestly the game I'm most excited about for 'next-gen' and it isn't even a release game. I just wanted other peoples takes on what they think of it. I'm really excited for MechWarrior meets Mirrors Edge...

My only concern is that it puts AI and Human players on the same team and, although apparently the points for killing them are different, I'm wondering if it isn't going to end up being people just farming AIs to try to win.

Agreed, every new thing I see on this game makes it look better and better. These guys created my two favorite CoD games, and it looks like they hit another home run with this.

I hadn't heard about the AI thing, but that does raise the same concerns for me. Is that official or were the games populated with bots for hands-on demo purposes?

Its official that they can only have a certain amount of human players in a game, so on some of the bigger scenarios there will be AI bots. Now they claim the AI bots will act very close to human and are worth less points then a human, but I've yet to see good FPS AI.

In any case, I'm super excited for this game, and it will even come out on PC as well! There's just the slight possibility that my current machine won't be able to run it...

I firmly believe... well, at least hope... that Titanfall and Destiny will be pushing the FPS scene towards something better than what COD and Battlefield has been providing for half a decade now.

The ideas of a faster pace, more verticality, more versatile combat options, story within multiplayer all sounds like very promising improvements.

I think the game looks great. I am dissapointed the game has no campaign, so I actually am excited that it has AI players in matches. They have said they want to combine elements that people think belong to campaigns into the multiplayer! Sounds confusing but possibly amazing!

I am not the biggest MP fan, I can enjoy a multiplayer match but I feel like every MP match is like flipping a coin. Will it be awesome or suck? Even games are great! Those days when the stars allign and I kill 23 people in a row and suffer not one death make me feel like God! Those days when I die 23 times and spend half the match somehow lost on the wrong side of the map without making contact with another player are extremely frustrating. I like I am sure all of you have experienced the entire gamut!

Introducing weaker AI players seems like a way to address these problems. The maps will be full so you are always in the action, their are always weaker players so you will always get that little dopamine spike for getting a kill even if your not the strongest player and yet still the player vs player action that is the crux of the game will be there too. I very much doubt the AI will be able to lose or win a match for you on your own, I very much doubt you will be able to hunt the AI down without meeting enemy players. I also understand that player pilots will have a much better selection of weaponry and only players can call titans so they are not just bots taking the place of what could be more players they are speedbumps, a natural hazard of the map not your equals.

I also doubt a deathmatch type game exists where whichever side gets the most kilsl wins. In trying to make multip player seem like single player its my understanding that each map type has a kind of victory scenario. take out their carrier, dont let yours die etc

Also as for points from what I observe the points seem to detract from the time it takes your titan to be ready. So killing ten AI or one player will be a choice to the same outcome.

I don't know why but I feel like Destiny is more of an evolution of Action Adventure than in the FPS camp...(not that I'm not getting it release day)

They called the type of match they were playing a 'reverse ticket system' which is an asanine way of saying its a traditional team deathmatch, where every kill gets you XX points and once one team reaches XXXX points they win. So if a human gets you 500points per kill and a bot gets you like 300 or something, it just counts up at a different rate.

This was the only mode they have showed off so far, maybe there are other objective based modes. I hope so.

I watched a trailer, 'angel city' I think it was called, the team I was watching had to destroy generators I think and when they achieved that they got the message to evac immediately. You then follow the player as he and everyone else rushes like mad to jump into a helicopter and get out of there.

I've watched that video multiple times, and I just watched it again. The 'campaign multiplayer' was that they were buying time for NPCs to escape through the sewers. They lost, so they had to flee. There was nothing about blowing up generators or anything.

Titting Falls will probably be a AAA title that everyone buys. Probably will have to stand in the queue at midnight at my local Best Buy if I want to get it on release day. *sigh

Titanfall now has Beta signups for anyone with an XBone or PC.

Saw some gameplay footage and i must say im rather excited for it. Although i may have to buy 2 copies (1 for me and 1 for my wife)

The more footage of the gameplay I see the less excited I have become. It looks like it will be a fun shooter, it just doesn't look new. It's just Call of Duty: Mech Warfare. I wish they'd done something new with the gunplay.

And Apt: its a very tight, arcade shooter, blending mechs and cod-like gameplay. If that isn't what you are expecting, you aren't going to like it.

I'm unsure what 'new' stuff you can add to the 'arcade' shooter gameplay that will appeal to a mass market. They are almost becoming niche-like.

I would love a new UT, but I believe Epic is pretty much out of games-making, but probably won't sell the series.

I would love a new Conkers game.

Also, Search and Rescue is pretty fun, as is the one-bomb mode in BF4. Hunted is fun in a group as well.

What kind of modes can you think up?

Some things I'd like to try off the top of my head. Most of the stuff I am looking for is related to what I would like from the maps themselves.

Remember playing something like UT where the entire map was just one big silo with elevators going up and down? Or SIN where one of the maps was a maze where depending upon which stair you pick or door you walk through your are upside down or walking on the walls, etc. Or you are inside a room and you've been shrunk so everything around you is gigantic.

I'd love it if you had things like King of the Hill, where you had a pyramid structure with a capture point at the top. The goal is to hold the top of the hill while you have the height advantange. The opponents have to try and make it up the hill avoiding fire and obstacles.

Maybe a maze where each player or team has to find their way to the middle of the map first. Maybe they have to find locks that open new passage ways. The Map is auto-generated each time like in Diablo. Maybe it also shifts and changes and there's traps and enemies that hinder your progress.

Maybe you're guarding or protecting a castle like structure and the opponents job is to demolish it. This would be based around destructible buildings and terrain. Think Red Faction vs Bad Company 2. By the end of a round the place would be levelled as flat as a pancake. The Defenders are able to rebuild structures until the damage reaches a checkpoint.

One thing I think could be an interesting game concept would be a Roman colloseum like arena. Just like the colloseum could be outfitted to have chariot races, and gladiator battles and sea battles, so would the colloseum be able to have different types of gameplay. One round you are playing with various types of melee weapons, the next you are on a SWAT style shooting range. One round you are on solid ground the next you are falling through the air or swimming under water. The obstacles in each setting also shift. Maybe the ground is littered with pits with spikes, or there are burning wheels rolling around the arena or a shark attcks you.

The point of that game would be that the environment would be as much of an opponent as the other players. One of the problems I have with current multiplayer maps is that they are very static. At some point the maps just get boring.

EDIT:

Oh man, I just had a fantastic idea. All the players are inside a giant ball that is rolling. Depending upon where the ball is rolling, the world turns and different types of terrain pops up or rolls away from you. If you're not moving you risk getting pulled up a wall and you could fall to your death or slide down into a trap or maybe a hole in the ball.

Maybe you can shoot differnet points of the ball to make it roll in a desirable direction.

King of the Hill gameplay exists in the COD games. It isn't just a giant pyramid, but it does exist.

How would the defenders rebuild it? By occupying a domination point or something?

So you want a game capable of doing all that in multiplayer? Ryse has a sort of colleseum, maybe check with that?

Of course they are. 'Real' FPS gameplay doesn't begin until people know the maps.
