I don't get how the dice and pips thing is supposed to work. At all. I'm probably in anyways though.

best analogy i can think of is assigning skill points in an RPG.

But then those skill points represent black dots on a dice that you roll for that skill...?

If I understood correctly, there is no random "rolls". your "skills" and "abilities" have a certain "point cost" associated with them. by making assignations for diff. skills you are basically choosing what your char will be able to do in-game--will they be able to do a 1-time super-dodge, or be able to resist multiple attacks, but only if those are weak? On top of that, you get to assign "action points" to active abilities, each use of which will consume your points--dice being both "skill points" and "action points" drawn from a single pool.
Then in certain situations, wagers and poker mechanics are applicable, as another set of skills. But it seems that essentially it comes down to creating a good starting char.

That's the impression I got, until we get VCs it's impossible to say more.

Also, you can sacrosanct a tile thus making you unlynchable... Wait, what?

I'm with D'rek on this. I think we need examples of how everything works in a simulated senario. Starting with the initial "customization" through paying for actions, gaining experience and so on.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

More or less. Suppose you have Spades 7 and 3 abilities that key of spades at values 1 (fluffy bunnies) 3 (pit bull) and 6 (Ctulhu). You can then decide to divvy it up any way you like it. 7 x [1] gets you a bunny farm, [3][3][1] a bunny and two dogs and [6][1] the fewest creatures but Ctulhu, who devours all - including the bunny

I remember with the last Tales of the Desert, I had no fucking idea what was going on until I actually got a character sheet. The several days we were given to review our character sheets and get ready to start the game were very useful for me to ask Tapper about 30 million characters.

That's a forgone conclusion. I think we should lay bets on someone in the final sign ups that will doing the actual breaking.

I remember that when the first ToD came along, it was confusing, but then Tapper did a great little "let me walk you through a day in the life of a Madeenite" post that made things a lot clearer and simpler. So I have faith it'll make sense if we pester him enough!

Per day, and getting 7 bunnies also requires 7 bullets per day....

Okay, so are those 7 things you have in spades pips or dice?

Pips. Pips are "dice points". You get 75 points to start with, broken down into 3 categories. you get to decide "how many dice" you wand in each category--so that, for example, if you have 30 points in physical skills, you can break it down into 5 6-point dice, or 6 5-point dice, or 1 6 point dice, 2 5-point dice, 3 4-point dice and 1 2-point dice, etc. If you have abilities that cost physical dice, you will then "use" one of these dice every time you use an ability--both passive or active. thus, planning on what you want to be able to use requires you to allocate your "points" wisely.

the cards thing comes in play with Mental (or was it magical?) skills--there, in addition to assigning a point value to a dice, you will also choose a suit, in order to create possible winning poker hands and/or power up you magical abilities. when "wager" mechanics are invoked, you will use your dice to play poker.

EDIT: tapper, feel free to correct me i'm wrong anywhere.

Sooo, when you say dice, you don't mean like actual proper dice, i.e. ones with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 on the sides.

Rather, these dice only have one 'side', with a number attached to them (does that number have to be between 1 and 6 still though?). So, for instance, if I have 8 pips assigned to Health, I could create two 'dice' for Health, one with 6, and one with 2.

Or is that incredibly, utterly wrong?

That is entirely correct. I just named them dice because of the 1-6 values.

Okay, this was the first part that was totally confuzzling me. I was definitely thinking of multi-sided dice.
