Does this game require an advanced degree in any subjects, such as economics? Is it going to require an investment of time roughly equivalent to a day job?

I had to set out Tapster's last couple of epic mind shags, so

I'm in

For you and Shin:
the game is going to be slow-paced although nights can be pretty intense. You'll have twice your daily window in each game day, and weekend breaks.

The main thing is getting to grips with the basic mechanics (attacks, defenses) and the dice distributions, then rolling it out for yourself.
Basically, I hope to post all the remaining Role blurbs tomorrow.
On Monday, I will hopefully have the sign-ups and an inbox with role selections. I will then send out the role PMs.
I'll inventorize the responses and start the game on Wednesday, probably, there's one full game day + night resolution, then weekend. By then, everyone should have their questions answered and seen everything in action.

As long as there isn`t a highly complex in-game economy, I`m in. Spycraft games were fun. ToD wasn`t really my cup of tea.

Nothing complex. Dividing previously assigned values into stacks, and using those to determine how often you can use what and how hard you attack.

In without even looking at what I'm getting into. Then devoting the rest of the week to figure it out and still have no clue.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

What do you mean nothing complex? Why have I been busy creating a formula to solve the entire thing? Oh wait this isn't FF is it. Nevermind.

I was reading through the game mechanics (oh God what did I get myself into, I should have known better) and at the moment it is easier to get a Straight Flush than a Flush, is that intentional?

Yes. I started looking at probabilities and dice poker rules and it became such a swamp that had nothing to do with regular poker that I decided I wanted nothing to do with it.
I expect a lot of 4-of-a-kinds and Full Houses, basically.

The point I was trying to make is that a Straight Flush should be harder to get than a Flush. Plus, your hands don't make sense.

You have a Straight Flush as 1-2-3-4-5 and a Flush as 1-2-3-4-5-6, both all same suit. Usually a Straight Flush is five cards of all one suit in order, whereas a Flush is just all cards of the same suit but it doesn't matter what numbers they are, just that they're all the same suit. I figured a Straight Flush would be 1-2-3-4-5 and a Royal Flush would be 1-2-3-4-5-6 all of the same suit, and that a Flush would be just all same suit, no matter what numbers are on the dice.

Are you just basically making up your own hands and calling it poker?

Alright, I misread the hands!!! My bad, sorry!

Nope. I am translating the poker combinations to dice. That some combinations lower on the rungs are harder to achieve is regretable but I want to be able to resolve in one glance, not without a reference chart that both players and mods will constantly need to refer to when challenging other players/ resolving wagers.

Also, the flush example was 1-2-3-5-6.

Essentially, a Flush doesn't matter what kind of pips. The rules just state that you can't have the same number of pips per color, or a flush of [1][1][1][1][1] of the same suit would be possible, which is less costly to achieve than a pair of [5]s, for example. So I decided to outlaw multiples of the same die, just like you can't have two Jacks of the same suit.

By consequence, that means that there's only a few combinations of 'normal' flushes that aren't Straight Flushes:

1-3-4-5-6
1-2-4-5-6
1-2-3-5-6
1-2-3-4-6
are the only possible variants, I think.

Call it a choice for the easy and obvious over the accurate when talking these combinations.

Okay read through once up until part way through the role choices and am still totally and completely confused. Might have to read it multiple times to figure out what the hell is going on.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I don't get how the dice and pips thing is supposed to work. At all. I'm probably in anyways though.

best analogy i can think of is assigning skill points in an RPG.

But then those skill points represent black dots on a dice that you roll for that skill...?

I had to look up the dictionary definition of pips as I did not know that's what black dots on a die are called (hell, I didn't know they had a name aside from 'black dots on a die'). That's how far I've got.
