All the other Cornwell threads are either disgustingly old, or lack many responses.

Thought I'd make a new one instead of necromancing.

Feel free to discuss Sharpe, Uhtred, Derfel or any of his other works/characters here.

On Topic: they've released the plot synopsis and title of the 7th Saxon Chronicles book.

It's called THE PAGAN LORD

Plot synopsis spoilerified for those who've not read books 1-6 in the series.

Spoiler

I'm not going to comment on how someone might mis-read the name of the viking listed in the synopsis.

I'm such a child.

I still have to read the 6th book in the Uhtred series. My favorite from him really.

Indeed, Uhtred's superb, especially how he expresses his love for the church. :p
I just couldn't bring myself to read his fifth book, though. I started having this feeling of going in circles. Uhtred always saves Wessex, and what does he get? I guess it got a bit repetitive for me.

Yeah I always felt sorry for Uhtred as they treat himlike crap, he saves them all and... They treat him more like crap. I got annoyed cos I kept thinking "look you should just leave them to it! Screw 'em!"

I'm also a big fan of Uhtred. It's not realistic but it is almost realistic so for me the result is there could have been a badass like Uhtred in those times, but sadly there wasn't. This slightly alternate history is fun to explore, being that the only major variable altered is the existence of Uhtred. Cornwell is GREAT at what he does.

While Sharp is great because of time and historical details, Saxon Chronicles simply because of badass unlucky Uhtred.

"I´ve killed Ubba Lothbrokson by the sea!" Yeah, I simply love Cornwell´s heap of history he splashes on me with every chapter...:)

To be fair Uhtred did say "Screw this, I'm 'outta here" a few times but he's honorable enough that he won't break a promise he made.

Mid January here in the states. And $16 for the e-book. ugh...

I'll probably still en up buying it. It's Uhtred afterall, I don't want him to think I'm an earsling...

I'm a massive Sharpe fan, but the only other cornwell book Ive read I think is The Fort.

to branch out beyond old Richard what would we recommend ti start with? Copperhead, the Arthur stuff ir the uthred character?

You cannot go wrong with the Arthur trilogy, by far my favourite telling of that tale, plus it's finished!

After that you can soon catch up with Uhtred.

If you like Cornwell, you will love either!

edit

The Grail books are enjoyable too, I'd read them and 1356 follows on, after that Agincourt slots in nicely with the Archer theme! That's if you intended to read more of his books.

I prefer the Saxon Stories (Uhtred) to the Warlord Chronicles (Arthur), but they are both great. Champ has a good point about the Warlord Chronicles being completed.

I also prefer the Saxon stories to Arthur. There just something about that period that makes it all so compelling.

I also prefer the Saxon so if you were going to pick one or the other than go with that!

And it's safe to say, The Pagan Lord is another solid entry into the series, I enjoyed it more than the last two books I know that though there is a lot of travelling involved! You won't be disappointed!

You would be Canadian, just to shame me further. I bet you're from Ontario?

On topic, I will devour any further adventures of Uhtred as soon as I'm aware that they are available
