Microsoft's show was good but Sony's was way better.
Also, even though you need PS+ to game online, you get free games with it and all the other bonuses that come with PS+ so really it's not bad at all. $45 a year or something and a free game every month? I think they said that.
Super happy about the used game thing too. If it was new games only I simply wouldn't even consider buying it... I'm almost never willing to spend full price on a game.

Ok I'm at work and will watch Sonys conference in a couple minutes. Reading the gossip, I anticipate MS is going to bite the bullet and lower the price of the XB1 or they are just straight fucked at this point.
That said, Titanfall is the game I want most that I've seen so far. Looks much better than BLUE ORANGE BLUE ORANGE of BF4 (although I'm sure I'll get that too)
And Silencer, no, most 'gamers' don't give two shits about Final Fantasy anymore, Squeenix has burned us with the last couple games. Kingdom Hearts has never interested me much, but I understand there is a rabid following.

When did I refer to "most gamers" at all in relation to Final Fantasy? I said it appeals to the fan base - and regardless of the crap they've spewed out for FF over the years, there is still a strong fan base, believe it or not. *Especially* people who didn't want Versus-XIII but wanted XV to come out. It was a massive announcement, that's a fact. And to follow it up with KH3 which has even more rabid, long-starved fan base? That's nuclear option. Mainly because it speaks to the people who have been with Sony a long time/gamers in general - it's that whole "sticking with our fans, who are gamers" line they were pushing, and it works. I haven't played a Final Fantasy since, what, 7? And I still think of it that way in terms of announcement value.
I think you're going to have to admit that Xbox dropped the ball and burned way too many gamers with their DRM/leasing/online policies and that Sony capitalized on that flawlessly, Obdi. M$ fucked themselves, get over it.

Get over what? Ryse was a disappointment, it was rhythm button mashing instead of a fully Kinect experience I was hoping for. The only thing that looked really good in MS's demo was Forza5 (and I don't care about racing games) and Titanfall (which is also out for PC). So... yea I agree. As I said MS needs to lower the price to at least match Sony or they have absolutely no shot at competing.

So why is the MS system more expensive? Doesn't the PS4 have more expensive hardware?

Because Sony learned their lesson from the current generation and is eating more of the cost to move more units, and apparently MS didn't figure that one out?

To @Defiance and @Lucifer's Heaven . . . . I was disappointed with the Destiny demo to end the Sony conference. I felt that it fell short and Sony should have ended stronger with another title.
The Thief 4 comment was from an earlier conference (Microsoft). I guess I should have seperated it. I was trying to convey that it reminded me a lot of Dishonered. But I've never played any of the Thief titles, so I was suggesting that maybe, in truth, Dishonored is copying Thief..... does that make sense?

DIshonored WAS copying the original Thief games in a lot of ways. The new Thief isn't necessarily going to be the same as old Thief, however.

It's brand-power. Those are big titles even if you're not a fan. *shrug*
And I hardly suggest that I am the voice of gaming, I just happen to be a person who plays video games and knows what he wants. Based on what I read on various gaming news sites and through my own friends, I tend to find a lot of confluence though...so yeah. Apologies if I come off a bit preachy, I just have strong opinions.

You just seemed to be very apologist for M$'s practices is all, Obdi. Glad you're not one of those people who approves of DRM and restrictive practices after all...

And this. Sony really hurt with the start of the current gen, so they've gone the other way. M$ apparently wasn't willing to stomach that loss to include the Kinect this time. More fool them...

I wouldn't say I'm an apologist for their practices, I just understand how/why they make some of the moves they do, even if I don't like them. That said I've played on xboxlive for what... 8 years now and have enjoyed my time with them, but nothing they showed really wowed me (even though Ryse was very pretty, not my kind of game. Quicktime events drive me batty and that was... /sigh) but MS seems to be going for the casual market that Nintendo just sort of walked away from with the Wii-u. They aren't going to get it with a high price point, but I'm sure there will still be tons of people buying XB1s. I just doubt I'll be one of them.
Ok seriously, got to try and watch the Sony Conference now.

What, WHAT?!! FFXV! Got a link? I was so fucking hoping for this or Vs. XIII!!
Well, it was on the live stream, so if you can find that (probably on the Playstation website or YouTube or something), it's in there. Incidentally,

So far for games I'm really liking Titanfall (as a CoD fan, obviously), The Division looks really intriguing, and the BF4 multiplayer demo was awesome.
Sony blew Microsoft away, in terms of what community response will be. I am seeing a lot of cool games though, and that's what is most important to me.

Ok so my final verdict of MS show:
I really don't see what they can do at this point to avoid giving Sony a very large early advantage with the 'gamer' market, who are early adopters, generally. They need to go read some Sun Tzu. Every move you make should either give you an advantage or remove an enemies advantage. Titanfall was pretty awesome but it isn't enough, especially since it is a spring release. And if all they could show of Halo5 was that CGI clip it obviously isn't a launch title. Where was Gears? I mean Forza has been the best console driving/racing sim for a couple years now, but it isn't a game that MS' console will sell on, I don't think. What is the launch lineup? Forza5, Ryse, and ... COD/BF4? You have 2 well known, respected, exclusive shooters. Neither is going to be available on launch? Really MS? Your bread and butter is FPS and Sports games. What are you doing?

^^^^ All the 14 yr old's parents can hang their hats on the probability that Call of Duty: Ghost's map packs and DLC will be released to the Xbox One three months prior to being made available on the PS4 and PC. That and Xbox One will in all probability have a promotion with PepsiCo that provide a code with Mountain Dew products that allows the aforementioned 14 yr. olds to enter it on the game's launch that will give them double XP and a super boss camo for their sniper rifle that no one else can get without said code.

Ok so what very very little I've been able to see on my phone from conference PS4 is gonna dominate this next gen war.. Atleast to me anyway. $399...yes please
Microsoft...what were you thinking?
Microsoft...what were you thinking?
I imagine Microsoft thinks that they can get away with it (DRM, no used games). While internet backlash would suggest that a very small percentage of people will be purchasing the Xbox One, I doubt this will be the case come launch day. Many people will have convenient amnesia about their outrage from the previous months. People will argue that while they don't support the DRM, they just can't pass up the games. I think Microsoft is counting on encapsulating a large enough portion of the market that the naysayers will be of little consequence to them. I hope this doesn't turn out to be the case, however. People need to stick to their guns.
Also, it seems like Microsoft is attempting to appeal to a broader audience. I'm not sure why someone who was only interested in TV would pay $499 for an Xbox when their TV more or less has the same capabilities. The TV-game tie-ins so far also seem to be really lackluster. Maybe I'm just a grouchy gamer stuck in my old ways, but this doesn't seem like a worthwhile direction for games to go.
Side note:
One thing I am desperately hoping for is some Psycho Mantis awesomeness akin to what happened on the PS1. From the trailer today it looked like he's going to be in the game. I can just imagine...

EA--well, there's Battlefront.... And hey, NFS allows you to play offline! although, naturally, it's not the focus.
DA3... look like it's trying to seriously compete with Witcher 3 for the RPG crown. Well, they lost Round 2 spectacularly, we'll see how 3 turns out. Not a huge fan of the "you have to save the world" idea--it's getting old. That being said, maybe something good will happen
Overall, I really like how they moved away from their "we're gonna do everyhtign online" speak of last E3.
Ok, BF4 multi demo looked wicked. I will not argue with this. Also, Mirror's Edge 2!
ok, gonna watch Ubisoft and go to bed. Watch Sony inn the morning.
ok Ubisoft--old stuff-Splinter Cell, Rayman...
New stuff-The crew. Another racing game. Seems everyone wants to make the best racing game. Also, persistent world.
Watch Dogs trailer- ooh. but no gameplay.
Ubisoft only tries to take some of that sweet Wii market--but they aren't doing it at the expense of their heavy-hitters. Like AssCreed.
Also, I gotta say, Ubi's pushing some controvertial topics. Last year WatchDogs, this year, Division. Too bad it's an online game.
