I don't know much about hating a team or disliking anyone. I have chosen to support the Dolphin's and follow them on facebook and twitter. I guess my rivals would be the Jaguars? Even though there are another 2 teams at least in the Florida state. I have been to Florida and is my reasoning for choosing to support a team from there. I don't own any American Football wear though. Maybe a change of avatar if you must. Unless it is HD that decides. I didn't change my team and is most probably why I received the Sacko.
Your rivals would be the other teams within the AFC East division, so the Jets, Bills, and Pats. More Jets/Pats than Bills though. There is a lot of history between these teams since they play each other twice a year, and that leads to some big rivalrys.
That's weird considering the proximity. How close are the Pats and Jets? Man united and Man City are major rivals for example because they are in the same city. One is blue and one is red and the HATE each other something fierce.
Pats and Jets are about 4 hours apart, and are huge rivals too, but geographic location isn't the main factor. For the most part, NFL rivals exist because they are forced to play each other twice a year, due to being in the same division, with the top team (out of four) getting into the playoffs. That makes all those games important for standing. The Dolphins get to play against every other conference team (AFC) every two years, and each non-conference team (NFC) once every four years. With that kind of rate, you do see rivals within a conference, but rivals outside of a conference are rare.
That is interesting. Do you also get the rivalries due to success? Liverpool and Manchester United are massive rivals in the UK because they have won similar silverware and more than anyone else in the country.
The jets suck and have almost always sucked (in recent years) the pats have a ton of hardware and they hate hate hate each other.

THESE PEOPLE.
When you say it like this, it makes me want to smack you. I grew up watching THESE PEOPLE. I'm not sure when fantasy football started, but I don't think THESE PEOPLE were still playing whenever it first began. I know it wasn't around for the Fridge, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't around for any of the others. Montana and Rice were QB and WR for Niners during the 80s 90s, and were considered two of the best ever during their time. The Fridge, Will Perry, was a defensive lineman for the Bears on that awesome, Superbowl winning 1985 team(or was it '86). He also was a fullback who ran over people when giving the ball on goalline carries. But he wasn't even the star back. Walter Peyton was. And its a din shame you non Americans missed the Superbowl Shuffle. A highlight in American History. I tried to find it on YouTube, but couldn't. Prolly a good thing.
But here's the Fridge in '85
My link
Emmit Smith was a Dallas cowboy RB, and a beast. Cowboys had Troy Aikman at QB, Smith at RB, Michael Irvin at WR.
Those were the years........
I think fantasy football goes back and assigns points to players for years even before t existed just for comparisons. No one ever actually had those guys on a team.

No, you've got the right idea, tatts. They do try to group teams in divisions by proximity, but it isn't perfect.
For example, he NFC South has 4 southern teams, in Carolina(Charlotte North Carolina), Atlanta(Georgia), Tampa Bay (Florida), and New Orleans(Louisiana). All pretty much southeastern cities. The AFC East has all east coast teams(new York jets, new England pats, buffalo bills, Miami dolphins). So it seems spread out, but their common ground is they all on east coast states. But each division only has 4 teams each, so its harder to group them. Then you have two different conferences. Seems confusing, but they do try to group them by geography somewhat. NFC North has all northern teams(packers, bears, vikings, lions). Etc....
But pulling for Dolphins cause u been to Florida is a decent way to pick a team. I always pick the closest home team. I was in Charleston, SC but I'm back in charlotte nc, and I can almost throw a frizbee and hit Bank of America stadium where Panthers play. So of course that's my team.

I have lived in Chicago for 15 years and only been to Bears games. However they are not my team. I prefer not to have a Football team to root for. I find that it clouds fantasy football choices. I want to be able to root for the players on my FF team and against the players on my opponents FF team. Having a favorite can cloud the issue.
Also there is no professional football team in Oregon so I only feel tied to the Oregon Ducks (collage FB) and not to a pro team regardless of the amount of home games that I have gone too.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

The game has changed over the last 15 years. Shit over the last 10 years the game has changed. Players are bigger and faster and stronger then they were 25 years ago. You take the 85 Bears Defense (one of the best statistically) and look at the size of the line. Now every teams defense is comparable or larger.
Soccer players might get a little bit faster or what not. But prime against prime is comparable. Football guys it isn't. The 72 Dolphins were unbeaten and won the superbowl. If you took them at their prime just before that superbowl game and moved them through time to compete against the any of the teams in the playoff's now and the Dolphins would lose. There lines are just to much smaller. They would get pushed around and that would be that.

In soccer, game speed and technical ability picked up tremendously. A top defender in the early 90s can't do what a second division right back does, nowadays. There was a physical revolution in the late nineties, and a technical/tactical one with the Barcelona/Spain ascension in the late noughties. Now, a playspeed and physical revolution (faster play, more physical players) seems likely with German clubs taking over the top ranks.
But yeah, gridiron has gotten faster and faster and harder and harder, and the sport is thr better for it, imho. Although I'd give a kidney to have seen Barry Sanders live, just once. What a wizard.

Yeah. Barry Sanders ,imo,, was the greatest runner ever. Even above AP. At least thus far in his career. AP still has potential to add to an already stellar resume, but in comparison, Barry Sanders still had MANY amazing seasons left in his tank. He quit during the peak of his ability. He could literally fake would be defenders out of their cleats by some crazy ability to stop on a dime and immediately move in lateral lines at 90 degree angles.
His legs were thicker than an average man's entire body. And I , of course, always picked Barry Sanders in early Madden.

So now that the season is over what happens next?
How do you keep track of what's going on?
I loved watching the Seahawks defense against the Broncos. Just loved it. Those players like Avril, Chancellor, Sherman and Okung just really impressed me. They were super fit athletes that were just pumped that they were in a final. Smashing into the Broncos Offence like they were butter. Speedy Gorilla type bulldozers that just didn't let up. I don't know much about NFL and I wish they played earlier games so that I could watch more but I was impressed. Back to my question though, how do you know which defense is going to be awesome, scrap that. I will phrase it better.
I think it is derogatory to have a star QB, RB, WR but then group 15? players into one "defence category". Wouldn't fantasy football be better if you picked your own defensive players? Similar to the way we (English) do fantasy football. I mean, what if I liked Sherman, Bowman and J.J watt and wanted them all in my team? What if tactically I wanted the players that grab the most touchdowns from defense or whatever the highest points would be from a back line that consisted of my favourite players from different teams?
This year I outscored 4 teams in the fantasy league but still finished bottom. What are people's strategies when coming to pick their players?
looking at the points scored this season, the top player was Peyton Manning and that was Vengeance's number 1 pick.
Here we go
Round 1
1- The Vinegar Strokes take Aaron Rodgers, QB, GB
2- Password is Taco- Adrian Peterson, RB, MIN
3- Natal Sharks - Drew Brees, QB, NO
4- Hooper's Troopers - Doug Martin, RB, TB
5- Orange and Black - Arian Foster, RB, HOU
6- The Black Hand - Jamal Charles, RB, KC
7- OneEyed Wild Cat - Alfred Morris, RB, WAS
8- Shivakamini - Matt Forte, RB, CHI
9- Hoosier Colts - CJ Spiller, RB, BUF
10- Zoom Zoom Zoom - Marshawn Lynch, RB, SEA
11- Go Ducks - Peyton Manning, QB, Denver
12- Marv Alberts Toupee - Trent Richardson, RB, Cleveland
Now what do we look at when we look at how well a player did, compared to their pick. Do we look at rankings and where they finished? Do we look at points and how many they got?
Peyton Manning finished 509.98 points for the season Ranked 1st.
That's a great first pick by Venge, yet he was ranked 31st. So in theory that should have been a 3rd? round pick, no?
Jamal Charles was 7th pick but finished Rank 2. 304 points
Then Drew Brees ranked 23 but finishing 3rd. 429.68
Next up was Lesean McCoy ranked 3 finishing 4. 277.60 points. Another Venge player.
So Venge has picked two great players here in retrospect.
People didn't like my Matt Forte pick, yet he finished Rank 5th.
What is the secret to getting a good balance to your team? Rankings should be there to help but not define your selections, surely. For example, in my English Fantasy football Robin Van Persie was rated as the best player after an immense season last year. This season he has not done half as well. Whereas Suarez who had a great season last season is having an even better one this season. Aaron Ramsey (who no one would have picked this year) is having the season of his life, although he has been injured for a few games now.
I want to know what you are all watching now that the season is over. What are you looking out for? Who is the potential star man coming out of colleges,. Who performed this year that you think will either stay similar or improve next year, or who flopped this year that should bounce back next year.

There is an entire industry built off of fantasy football strategy/drafting/etc. In the end, it is a mix of strategy, luck, and waiver wire picks. Shit, look at my draft., and then look at my waiver wire pickups: I won the regular season based on the waiver wire.
Basic football knowledge helps, but luck is #1, great drafting is #2, Waiver Wire #3, and then the skill to be able to get around them with trades are #4.
IMO.
Edit: By the way, ain't no way you can predict a record setting season in both TDs and Yards. Manning won many leagues this year on otherwise terrible teams.

I have played twice now, and I just don't understand the Waiver wire at all. It's not simple. Or should I say, because I have no knowledge of players it's not simple enough. I don't know how to best use it, how the hell do I know when to take out a player that's ranked quite good that I picked for someone ranked worse but is getting more points? For example, I only know of the Seahawks players I named up above because I watched the game and they impressed me. Yet the players that impressed me, were just part of a defense.
Looking at the Broncos offensive play (offense is what the FF seems to be about mainly) I noticed that Manning likes to play the ball to Thomas. So does that mean, I should put Thomas in my team because he is receiving the ball often? If this is the case then the only way i'd be able to compete is by watching more games and actually seeing who plays what when and where. So now the season is over how do you know that Manning will play to Thomas next year, or will he play to some other guy that they draft?
Which teams do you think will be better next season for sure compared to this season?

One of the ways to use the waiver wire is to pull up the list of players for an upcoming week that aren't already on someone's team. Then pick one category like WRs, or RBs. I find its easier to look at one position at a time. Then make sure you choose to list their PREDICTED POINTS for the upcoming week, and click on that category so it ranks them from top to bottom. Easy. Then just let yahoo do the work by showing you the top 3 to 5 players who are available that are predicted to do the best that week. If their predicted points are higher than yours, then maybe consider switching them out. This don't always work, but for uncertain spots it helps.

I understand that bit. But how are those predicted points predicted? It's obvious if it was correct that the ranked 1 player will become rank 1, so you would need to see what is happening in the games the week before. Maybe it showed that Thomas was no longer the preferred pass by Manning, now the predictions have Thomas as getting a 15 point week and Kearse getting 4 points when the reality is Manning prefers throwing to Kearse now over Thomas. Not only would you need to know this but you are competing with other players that basically know more than you do. So HD was saying he had success on the waiver wire, did anyone else?

Is Aaron Rodgers/Drew Brees worth their pay? Is it worth having them and suffering in other areas? Are they the best QB's in the NFL? They get paid the most according to a recent survey on the highest paid athlete's. I don't know how old it is but Tiger Woods is still top, followed by Federer, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James. Then it is these two players. Drew Brees at number 5 and Aaron Rodgers at number 6. That surprised me.

Their teams think they do. For a full comparison though, you'd have to look at the difference in salary between people with the Rodgers/Brees skill-set, and mediocre quarterbacks (Matt Schaub, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning). That establishes the 'going rate' for a non-rookie QB, and the difference is what it takes to get a top level QB on a long term contract. So instead of 20 mln, the skill set of Brees might be worth 6-8 mln above the norm.
