The final was just fantastics, I remember how wrong it felt watching it while hearing the joyful sounds of kids playing outside.

currently watching episode where Beverley has been found sliced up at the start.

Did not see that coming (well, not until the prior episode where she went into Hannibal's house)

Yeah, that sucked. Beverley was a great character, even more so because the writers defined her solely by her intelligence, not by sex/race.

So about the finale, I loved the last several episodes, the relation between Hannibal and Will becoming the focus as it should be, great cinematography on top of that - I just LOVE the whole black stag motif - does a black stag signify something in anglo-saxon or germanic iconology/mythology?

One thing I didn't like, Abigail showing up - I wasn't stunned or amazed, I was just like "WTF?" and "meh" about that. It does feed the skewered symmetry between Will and Hannibal, tho.

Overall, I really liked the series, the atmosphere is just irreplacable. One complaint the gf had about season 2 is how static it seemed to her, and tbh there's more standing around than in season 1. I give it eight beach totem poles stitched together by a pensioner out of ten.


PS. I really, really want the coat and scarf Will has in late season two. Also maybe going for the hairdo!

I wasn't the least bit surprised that Abi showed up... what did surprise me was her victim-ness and how casually Hannibal dealt with her.

I didn't think it was static. We had Will's campaign against Hannibal while incarcerated, Bev, Will's trial, the plot to get Hannibal and then the finale that we saw back in the premiere. Plus an interesting assortment of killers along the way... i particularly enjoyed the cyber-bear, and the pallet-killer.

It WAS very nice, but frankly, Hannibal steals the wardrobe prize every episode.

Just finished gorging on Season 2.

Holy fucking christ. Fuck. So much blood. I love when we actually get to see Hannibal become physical. Everything is so calculated and lethal.

This show is violent. I don't just mean that in terms of the shows content or the theme. I mean that the show practically assaults you visually and audibly. Some times I was just sitting there gaping at what ever insane shot they had set up. Even a weak episode is fun to watch, just for the sake of watching the cinematography and Hannibals cooking.

I still think the show is more of a cartoon than a crime show or a psychological thriller but I think the narrative became much more solid in this season. Or maybe not quite. In the middle of the season I thought it was pulling a Twin Peaks when Graham suddenly turned into a mad killer. I saw the con coming when the Journalist "disappeared" but the change in the show was really abrupt. The fact that Hannibal just accepted that and believed in Will was really thin in my opinion.

For a little while there I actually believed it and when "the burning wheelchair" scene came up I thought they were turning Will Graham into the Red Dragon. Imagine that. The protagonist of the first season becomes the antagonist. Third season could have been Hannibal helping the FBI hunt Will Graham/Helping Will Graham stay on the loose.

Anyway, I wonder about season 3. They have run into a gap between Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs now. I recall reading Red Dragon back in the day and I recall Will Graham capturing/incapacitating Hannibal during their confrontation. So season 3 is basically in uncharted waters, right? Is Hannibal going to be out of most of season 3 because he's in Europe?

I find it interesting that Mikkelsen shifts between He and I when discussing Hannibal. He talks of Will as his friend, not Hannibals friend, etc. It sort of gives you an idea of how far into the role Mikkelsen gets.

As a Dane who's been following Mikkelsen since he first showed up on Danish television, it's exciting to see just how far the guy has come. Definitely one of the best Danish actors this generation.

That's why I found it such a good read, you can tell that it's not just some gig for him, he really has done the work on the character and is in his mindset... Perfect example below...

You can take the 'Danish' out of that sentence and it reads just fine. I personally rate him as good an actor as anyone in the world, Daniel Day-Lewis included.


I don't think it's unusual for an actor to refer to their character as 'I', but he does seem unusually invested in the role. He obviously loves the show.

The thing is, I think you can always find other people, who do just as good a job in their intended role.

The reason why I say one of the best Danish actors, is because Mikkelsen came up alongside a bunch of other great actors. It was during a period where there was a minor renaissance in Danish film and TV. Mikkelsen got his big breakthrough as a small time junkie in "Pusher" opposite Kim Bodnia who is by a far a much more crazy actor. Mikkelsens brother recently played the role of the Big Bad Magnusson it season 3 of Sherlock. Ulrik Thomsen regularly shows up in movies and TV-shows. There's plenty of Danish actors who have made performances that rival Mikkelsens but Hannibal is probably Mikkelsens finest moment yet.

It got a bunch of Danish awards but I haven't seen it. I am not particularly interested in watching that type of movie, especially on that subject. Same reason why I refuse to watch Irreversible.

Series 3 epi 1 aired here i nthe UK last Wednesday. And as much as it was a'set-up' and 'slow' episode, I was still blown away by it.

I'm so glad this show is back on and i can't wait to see where it takes us this time round.
