Awesome sauce. This show is all kinds of brilliant.

I have a bad feeling when it comes to Dr. Bloom's long term health.

I like how they are bringing together so many of the threads that we have seen in the movies (eg. Mr. Verger from Hannibal).

It will be interesting to see what point they choose to use as a cliffhanger for the season, with only 2 episodes left.

I'm gonna go with Mason Verger having his unfortunate "accident" as the climax, but I can't decide if they'll have Hannibal's secret getting out at the same time?

Assuming they follow the books, Hannibal has to mess up Verger before he's revealed and either goes fugitive or is caught.
Alona is very so dead.

Is Chilton dead?? Or do they need to find a way for him to not be dead, to remain consistent with the books? I've a feeling they'll bring him back at a later point, disfigured but alive (cos there's no way that didn't leave a scar), and having been in a coma. But wheeled out later to be a piece in the case against Hannibal.

I think Alana is going to be collateral damage in the fallout of Hannibal and his manipulation of the Vergers.

But just 2 eps left. Such excitement.

In theory Chilton has to live to show up in SILENCE, but the show could simply do away with that. They certainly left it open enough for him to be coma'd and scarred, of course, they could also bring in a brother or cousin 'Dr Chilton'. STill they've been very careful not to say he was killed.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Chilton feature as a player in S3.

I think the Alana element will play out as Hannibal striking at Will and/or possibly Crawford. I was actually surprised that they wrote in the Verger storyline from (mediocre book) HANNIBAL, but it worked very nicely.
Alana stands as a uniquely tv series element and they'll probably deal with her separate from other elements. SInce they have a S3, they could keep her around for another season yet, esp since they killed off Beth and had some horrible stuff happen to Margot.

I didn't see the extent of it playing out like that at all. And the final scene was a nice little tease as well.

Thank God they've got another season to play this out.

I want a furious Will Graham hunting Hannibal Lecter.

On a writing and filmmaking note, loved the symmetry of Will's phonecall to Hannibal, echoing back to episode 1. And the various visuals (raindrops, reflections, blood) and cinematography in general are stunning. I don't know how expensive this show is to make (aside from the actors), but they really make it look cinematic.

Just started watching this. Four episodes left in the first season.

I'm enjoying it a lot. The psychological aspect is really nice. It does require a little too much suspension of disbelief in some cases, namely:

1) Some of these serial killers are absurdly strong. Namely, the angel-wing killer mounting a guy about thirty feet up in the air and the 70 year old guy erecting a 17-corpse totem pole all by himself.

2) I'd like the show to move away from having a new serial killer in almost every episode. I know this sort of thing is typical for crime shows, but it feels like too much. The strongest parts of the show are by far the ongoing plotines, and I wish it'd extend to the serial killers as well (well, there's Hannibal, but being the titular character he doesn't really count).

at 2x09, I'm losing faith in the series. it's like they're just stuffing random monsters of the week to prolong the season and the inevitable confrontation, like they don't have enough of an idea for it to just stick to the storyline. way too much detours.

also, more and more it seems like the show could just drop every other character besides Will and Hannibal and just focus entirely around their interaction.

Totem pole guy WAS damn strong, tho they suggested he built it for weeks.

I agree w your second point and in S2 they shift more to that approach.

Stick with it. You're just about to hit a much tighter set of eps going into the finale.

Sure, we all knew the fight with Jack was coming (and AWESOME... for a 'large gentleman', Fishburne can throw down!) and was going to end badly for Jack... tho i say he isn't dead since emergency tie, and RED DRAGON, but even so that scene was nuts, and then Alona, then Abi, then Will, then the DEMAURIER twist. I KNOW.

I've been saying Abi's alive since her ear showed up in Will's sink, but her throwing Alona out a window was a surprise, and Hannibal stabbing her like a minute later, just to mess with Will... that, i didn't even close to predict. And it says alot obout Hannibal that his entire 'family' focus was really just on Will as a friend/fellow hunter... Abi was just bait.

The budget is acually extremely low and the crew is exceptionally talented.

I liked:

- Will finally realizing that he, not Hannibal, is the black stag;
- Just how ambiguous Will's allegiance is, right until the end;
- Abi, per above;
- Will really did change Hannibal... yes, he stabbed the fuck out of EVERYONE, but didn't actually make a single kill;
- Demaurier... oh, that was all kinds of awesome twistation right there... suggests Hannibal's been onto the plan for way way longer than anyone expected.

I disliked Alona suddenly becoming this wholly useless woman-in-distress... ok, maybe she didn't notice how much lighter her gun was with no bullets, but then she runs UP the stairs... what she hasn't seen a single horror flic... and THEN she fires three rounds through the door instead of waiting to, y'know, see the guy she was trying to shoot, THEN she ANNOUNCES she has more bullets (duh) and just stands around instead of i dunno, getting the fuck outta there.. now granted most of this goes to panic, but even so, it was just a really hamhanded handling of a character who mostly had her shit together until just then.

So glad they have a S3, can't wait to see what they do next.

@Abyss - I agree with how irritatingly "damsel-ed" Alana is, but I noticed u mentioned she's a "tv element" only - actually, she's a genderbent version of Will Graham's psychiatrist friend in the book Red Dragon. Obviously, the sexual and romantic relationship was created for tv, but she is based off a book character.

Season 1 was pretty good. Almost done with season 2 now, and it's fucking amazing. Fixed pretty much every problem I had with the first season. Things have been truly unpredictable this time around. The only real criticism I have for this season is Alana Bloom is annoyingly stupid. I don't mind obnoxious characters - Freddie Lounds is a perfect example of a great character who gets on my nerves - but Alana is just stupid. Really hoping she gets her shit together or ends up on Hannibal's dinner table.

Holy fuck. That was one of the most amazing finales I've ever seen. The camera work, the music, the rain, the blood, it was all so perfect. You hate seeing Hannibal get away with it, but at the same time you can't help but admire everything he's done. While I love Hopkin's role in Silence of the Lambs, Mads Mikkelsen truly is Hannibal for me now.

Can't wait for season 3. Just read an interview where Bryan Fuller says the first episodes of the season probably won't even focus on who survived Hannibal's reckoning.
