With about a minute to go until the Microsoft show goes live I remembered I wanted to make this thread.

Here's a link to the live stream: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hub/reveal

Oh boy this is going to be interesting.

They've revealed the console and all. Looks like a VCR/DVD player. All about the media experience so far. Games, it seems, will just be another app.

And: Xbox One. Ugh.

Crappy name for a console. Sounds like a rip off of HTC's ONE cell phone. I was on but logged off and now I can't get back. There connection is probably swamped.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Looks like Microsoft is going away from the "hardcore" gaming scene and going for a family center. Just like predicted.

EDIT: I take that back, it looks like it can compete with the PS4s architecture.

Great cause that is what I want my kid to be able to do. "What no mom I wasn't playing a game I was just watching TV." :(

At least it looks like they've come up with a better d-pad for the controller. Although it looks like the new controller is the old, original Xbox controller? :( Is something a bit weird about those triggers?

What an awful name.

Didn't get shit for details about Xbox Live yet. Having to pay for online multiplayer is shit, but I wouldn't mind it so much if they added some features similar to what PS+ offers. Also, Xbox Gold should immediately remove any and all adds from my dashboard. They shouldn't be there in the first place, but good god, why do I have to look at Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber every time I turn on my console? The ads are just right there in your face too, they don't even try to make them non-intrusive.

And sports games. Yawn.

Honestly is there really that much demand for people to be able to chat to each other while your trying to watch a movie? That just sounds really irritating.

15 exclusives planned so far by Microsoft - 8 of them brand new franchises. That's a bit more intriguing, but sadly no detail. And I'm definitely not sure about this "ties into scripted television" thing which Remedy are developing, and the notion of "cloud-powered games which change with the actions of the community." Can't I just play a game without anything interfering, and go to multiplayer if I want others to affect my game? :(

lol, I have to agree. To put a negative spin on the presentation thus far, this console (media box?) seems to be geared at the notion that everyone has minute attention spans nowadays.

First I was facepalming, but with Spielberg on board this has the potential to be great. I just hope they get some good writers and have enough budget to make special effects that blend seamlessly.

Looks like Defiance was a test run for something they want to do a lot more of - not just have television and games on one media outlet, but have television and games as one connected thing.

The NFL focus just shows they know who their overwhelming market is going to be - the USA :p I think I speak for the majority of Europeans when I say, yawn :(

Exactly. And I don't just mean the sports stuff. How much of this television integration stuff is going to work here over seas? Are Microsoft going to make deals with a hundred different tv companies? Netflix and HBO are only just now launching here in Denmark.

Anyway it's interesting to compare Microsoft and Sony's press conferences.

Sony came in to this reveal trying to be as humble and positive as possible. Focusing almost entirely on the gaming experience, practically kissing the ass of all the developers they've wronged over the years. Microsoft on the other hand decided to focus on the whole living room experience. I don't want to say games were an afterthought but they certainly weren't a highlight. Hell they only showed 3 games.

Personally the whole thing left me cold. I will be perfectly happy if Microsoft leaves the hardcore gaming demographic for Sony but I don't think they are out of the race. Not with those specs.

Interesting that we didn't get a price point, a complete hardware description or a launch date. Guess the stand off between Sony and Microsoft continues while they wait to see who pulls the trigger first.

Yeah, I didn't expect any of those - I was surprised they even revealed the actual console!

It certainly doesn't look like they're leaving games behind, but...it does seem that they want their games to be more than 'just' games.

According to Wired, who got to preview the console yesterday, games are a mandatory install and link to your Xbox Live account. This would suggest you have to pay an extra fee to link a game to another account, which really fucks over the used game industry. Also, if linking to your Xbox Live account is necessary, that would also suggest mandatory online at least during the install process.

I'm going to wait for Microsoft to comment before I give up on the console, but if this is true I hope it bites Microsoft in the ass. Also, mandatory installs for all games when you only have a 500gb hard drive? That's going to fill up very quickly.

EDIT: Microsoft confirms that it won't always be online, which is good. Still wondering if online will be mandatory for installs, though. Hopefully not.

Also, hopefully you can shut off the stupid Kinect censor. I don't need my kid saying "Watch TV!" when I'm in the middle of a game.

Only if you're a serious gamer, which is not who MS seems to be aiming for. It's designed for people who might download a programme or app or whatever, and then delete it once they're done with it.

If that's true about it games being linked to your Live account, then that would also mean that you couldn't borrow a game from a friend without also knowing their account details in order to play it. Sad panda if true :(
