Yaaaay! Thanks Gnaw, I know re-doing that one (twice) must have been frustrating! You're doing a great job!

It's not the re-rolls that are frustrating. it's the "why" I'm doing them. Stupid mistakes because the info needed is spread across multiple tabs/windows.

Any spreadsheet gurus want to take a shot at making one for this? Something that would let us just plug the dice roll in and it kicks out the hit/miss? Although for battles with different shields would be a problem

Totally missed this post. I'm playing around with this but you are right having battles with multiple shields makes it difficult. I think most likely I can do something that can spit out auto hits and auto misses but return a computer moddified value for all other values that you can compare to the shields of the defender if everything isn't equal. Been slow going.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I pAssed without any discs to spare so I thought that losing Altair would free one up.
I'm usually wrong though, so was just checking thanks.

Seems that way. I would really like to get people to post their final VP totals so we can get a run down of where people placed.

Twelve 55
D'rek 44
Gnaw 6

where everyone else ended up I have no idea.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I'm farily sure of Morgoth's and Tatts final numbers but I'm not sure what tiles CF, Tapper and SS ended up with so they will have to sort this out to get a final count.

You did?

Heh. That costs Morgy and CF a VP.

Although, that would let CF and Khell form Diplo. I think. I'll get around to mopping this up later today or tomorrow.

I lost a system and 2 pts to you, conquered a 3 pt system (which I'll settle with double money which should make it fine for me, upkeep-wise), lost an ambassador and gained a combat rep tile (probably 2 pts) so my net gain from combat is 1 pt.

I was at 22 --> 23.

I am at 34 points. I lost Epsilon Eridani, but kept both WH hexes and SS's homeworld, plus picked up the shellworld. 31 -3 +6 =34

Post combat: influence shellworld tile + 6VP, colonize both econ and material worlds

Provided khell is ok with it, I would enter diplo with him at upkeep. Take diplo cube from diplo with Tatts and place on money track. Take moneycube and place on diplo with khell

Pillage bonus all together +2(vs khell in shellworld) + 4(vs SS in 55 cancri) + 3 (vs Tapper in B.Sextantis) + 2 (vs. tapper in Z. Chamaeleontis) = 11 money

Money -25 upkeep + 24 production + 0 bank + 11 pillage bonus = 10 moneys
Science 0 bank + 2 production = 2
Material 1 bank + 6 production = 6

Yep, diplo with CF, put a material cube on my ambassador. Colonise science planet on Rho Indi, because why not?

Final Upkeep:

Money:

Current Amount: 0
Upkeep: -21
Income: 21
New Amount: 0

Science:

Current Amount: 1
Income: 12
New Amount: 13

Materials:

Current Amount: 2
Income: 8
New Amount: 10

Final VP: 24 (8 from hexes, 7 from research, 4 from rep tiles, 4 from discoveries, 1 from diplo).

I think, looking at the scores, that I get the bronze?

It's a distant, distant third place finish, but I'll take a medal over bupkis any day.

Ok, so now having played an entire game as Rho Indi, I would definitely give them another try in the future. I think I could play them a lot better. Realizing now how much there is to be gained from aggressive combat in multiple locations, (11 money in one round...wow!), you need to have them in battles constantly to make up the deficit from the ship construction being so expensive.

I think their success is also highly dependent on finding material and money planets. Almost anything else is a waste of time, to the point where in a do-over scenario for this particular game (where I found almost no material and money early on) I'd explore ONLY as far as I needed to make connections with neighbours, save as much money as possible in the early rounds then start fighting them tooth and nail. If I'd been more lucky with explores and picked up better Tier 2 and Tier 1 systems I think things would have been very different.

Also, they need to invest in weapon technology to the exclusion of everything else. I invested early in advanced robotics, thinking it would net me more cash in the long run. That was dumb. It would have been far better to invest in aggression right off the bat and I wouldn't have needed the extra influence disc due to making up deficits by pillage bonuses. I think the only thing that saved me really was getting the conformal drive for free, and somehow being lucky enough to pick up cloaking device. Without those two I would have been in the low teens for points, or out of the game entirely.

Of course, this means that the entire board hates you, and is working to stop you, but you can't play friendly as the pirates I'm afraid. Have one staunch ally at most and everybody else is fair game. I'd be very interested to see how they play out in a proper alliance. I feel like they'd be an excellent support race, providing some shelter early on for one of the heavier late-game hitters like Terrans or Hydrani or Magellan, at which point they'd transition to a quick strike force role.
