Gnaw, leave him alone, he's making a dramatic build up to it, and it's awesome.

It is awesome. Especially because I think he's going to attack you. :)

Or CF. CF might make more sense.

Frees Tapper up to go after Twelve.

The galactic diplomats find the gates to the Aquatic Chambers shut in their faces as the debate rages within. The SS Fish Out of Water is the name on everybody's (fish)lips. Some call for a diplomatic solution to what they frame as the foolish act of a lesser species, historically given to mistrust and paranoia – brutes whose star has long since faded and whose actions should be met with a patronising shake of the head. They point to the continued threat of Eridani galactic domination, and the fear that should they take control of the Galactic Council, they will either stifle technological advancement, or worse, enslave the Hydrani and bend their keen intellects into the service of warmongerers.

Hmmm who is the most technilogically advanced civilization? Who also has never been an agressor to any other races outside some early game grandstanding? We would gladly appoint your greatest scientist to the most prestigious and accomplished research universities the universe has to offer. Ours is an old and proud race but we have also have learned from our checkered past and will unite the species of the galaxy where everyone feels they have a place in the furture society that will be created under our rule.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

But a new voice emerges from the depths. The one-time political outcast K’rsh Qwerty Gh’bulagggnedddw (to surface dwellers – if pronounced underwater one would actually hear Steve Smith), whose mother – some unkind squids might say – is rumoured to be a Pirate.

K’rsh bellows (as much as one can bellow underwater) that the Starfish Senate have led the people astray with their propaganda, focused only on their own self-interest and immediate financial gains. The Hydrans have lost their way, he gargles. Where have the rapid advances in science gone? Why have the home planets been neglected for so long, any protection light years away? What purpose the taking of Rho Indi, a far-off arid staging post which the Hydrans don’t even have the resources to fully colonise?

And then he speaks of the SS Fish Out of Water, and the arrogance of the Orion so-called Hegemony. How dare they threaten Hydran property without even a second thought? And, if any race is known for attempting to enslave the galaxy to their own will, it is not the Eridani, but the Hegemon. K’rish points out that the Eridani have never actually harmed Hydran interests despite our repeated incursions into their territory.

K’rish’s enemies say that he lives in the past, that he is blinded to the threat upon us now, that the Hegemon have equally never threatened the Hydrani and all this is but a misunderstanding - but fewer and fewer appear to be paying attention to these naysayers.

K’rish says that it is time that the Hydrani stopped being objects of ridicule, geeky techos leaving wet slimy trails in their wake. K’rish burbles that it is time for the Hydrans to show their true blue colours, and make their own destiny, rather than aiding the vendettas of others.

The debate rages on. Eventually, the diplomats of the Eridani and the Hegemon are summoned into the deep, cold depths of the Aquatic Chambers.

"I think I've made a terrible error of judgement."

I expect a full scholarship, tenure, 4 space-chinese grad students (*without* helicopter moms) and accessible keyboards to accommodate our scientist's 6 digits to your 14 tentacles.

10 bucks on khell makes the "diplomats" duel via Mafia to decide who he attacks, and we all have to wait for azath's game to finish before continuing this!

My translator/bodyguard/spy/pod-brother-in-law says that the rumours floating through the pod ink-vines is, "the high council is bought and paid for by the weapon's makers." He admits that he has no clue what that means though.

That would be hilarious but frustrating in the delay. Azath's game hasn't even started yet. I almost forgot I even signed up.

The enormous doors to the Aquatic Chambers slide open with the satisfying hiss of superior technology. For long moments, nothing happens. The entire ocean seems have drawn its, uh, water breath. And then, out floats...a head.

The head of the Hegemon diplomat.

Before the shoals can even voice a scream or a cheer, a figure hurriedly swims out - or as hurriedly as its ridiculous stumpy legs can take it. The Eridani diplomat, wisely deciding that no more needs be said and he should probably see how his wife and lizardbug-children are doing anyway because he hasn't seen them for quite a galactic space-month.

The K'rish languidly swims out. And he burples:

"The Cruisers SS Drowned Rat and SS Whale of a Time, currently stationed in Arcturus, shall MOVE. They shall fly through Pollux, where they shall update the systems from scout to fighter of the SS Fish out of Water, before splitting. The SS Drowned Rat shall carry on to Vega, to meet their main force of the Hegemon scum, while the SS Whale of a Time shall go to Psi Capricorni. Let us realise the fears of the Hegemon, and they shall know they have only themselves to blame for their impending doom!

And the shoals were hidden from view by the bubbles of their screamed delight.

"I think I've made a terrible error of judgement."

Personality flaw. I take things too literally way too often.

And I may say that I am more than a little surprised by the latest turn of events. I thought Khell's whole purpose was to shut up my smug self.

If not the Eridani, Khell at least chose the most deserving of crettins to smother in his moist embrace

He's leaving that to Tapper I suspect.

For too long now, the Hydrani have forgotten that of all races, they fear change the least. It is not that the Hydrani now wish the Eridani well, but they recognise that the potential ascendancy of the Hegemon would be a step backward for the galaxy. It is unknown what an Eridani-dominant future should hold, byt the Hydrani do not fear the unknown. Further, should the Eridani emerge on top, it will certainly not be with the ease with which they once expected - and they will know in their stone lizardbug hearts that Hydran technology was essential to their victory.

The Hydrans recognise that a divided galaxy is the best outcome for them - for then everyone will continue to want to buy Hydran technology with standard one-year warranty in a bid to attain supremacy over one another.
