Hi folks, looking for a bit of help here.
Is there any way I can make use I those planets? Like colonists ships? If I want to place a disc I have to destroy the ancients eh? Is there anyway I can benefit from this rather tasty system without combat for now?

Sorry there Solid. You first have to remove the ancients then you can influence the hex and colonize the planets. The only race that can benefit from the ancient hexes are the Dracos and they are not allowed (per house rules) in a 9 person game. Start building/upgrading ships (a lot) to take those pesky ancients out.

Edit

Plus what D'rek said about setting up the hex for later in the game.

Just to be sure, so you want Chi Draconis to connect to yourself, me and Tapper, right?

I'm handing in a provisional to conquer my only available tier 2 system. This will in all probability be a drunken week end and thus I'll be less available than normal.

I fail to see how it would connect to you. You're the green right?
I'd need a WH at NW for that. Even then it would still only be half a WH.
But yes, this orientation is fine with me.

The hex I just received in the same post as you (Beta Leonis) is SW of your Chi Draconis, and it has a half-wormhole towards where your Chi Draconis goes, so putting a half-wormhole from Chi Draconis to it makes it a full connection.

Just wanted to make sure you were placing Chi Draconis with awareness of that.

Ok. I see you all drew hex tiles too, just haven't been placed. Ok then.
Then I suppose I want to avoid you for the time being.

I am not at all saying that. In fact, Tapper has more of a history of doing that than me (the stealing someone's next-door ancient hex thing).

I would rather not have a wormhole there to worry about Tapper coming in from later in the game. But my main motivation is just making sure the newer players have their stuff figured out, and with us resolving actions at the same time it wasn't obvious that there would be a connection there since my hex isn't on the map yet.

Yup fair enough.

Place Chi Draconus hex as original orientation

WH exits at NW, N, NE and S.
Have yet to update first post.

So D'rek, on your first action you researched hull improvements for 3 Sci. Was that tech on the supply board? And when do you get to 'upgrade' your ships with it?

There was 1 tile of it on the board. I researched it and took the 1 tile, so it can't be researched now, but it might come up again in later rounds.

The Improved Hull technology allows me to use Improved Hull ship parts. I can add Improved Hull ship parts to my ship blueprints using the UPGrade action.

Upgrade is just another type of move. So instead of saying "Explore SW" or "Research Gauss Shields", you would say "I will Upgrade my cruiser blueprints with Improved Hull." I believe most races allow you to do two upgrades at a time (so for example you could say "Upgrade my cruiser AND my interceptors with Improved Hull", or "Upgrade my cruiser with Improved Hull and my interceptors with Gauss Shields").

If you look on your player board, there are blueprints along the top for each type of ship you can have. Each blueprint is divided into a certain number of squares, and this is how many technologies you can have on that ship. You have to specify which square you want to upgrade. However, there are some requirements. All the ships must have a Drive/Engine, for example, so the only thing you can upgrade that with is another, better Drive part. And the energy usage of your techs cannot exceed your ship's Source energy ( which can also be upgraded). Some techs, like the Hulls, use zero emergy, so you could have loads of those. Others, like the big weapons, use up a lot of energy.

The other restriction is, of course, that you have to have researched or discovered the technology before you can upgrade a ship with it.

Yeah, too bad there's all those errors and misleading bits in there. If you ignore those it sounds pretty darn good.
