Ouch... not a good tech draw for Orion or Hydrans... at least not where I am.

I kind of want to go Exiles again, see if I can really make them work after last time. But on the other hand it'd be good to try something new, too, right?

aaaggghhhhh I'm torn! :(

It's an excellent tech draw for Orion as far as I can tell?

Anyways, I'd like to try something new and will pick The Exiles. I also wont mind being oriented so that I have a wormhole pointing towards the GC and tatts

I guess she means only one improved hull available so someone could grab it to keep it from her.

9 player makes that early research more risky though as you can potentially be blocked off by the others.

I thought it was a pretty good draw for hydrans as well myself, advanced robotics is out which most hydran players seem to end up grabbing anyway

Only 1 advanced robotics and only 1 plasma cannon tile each amongst 9 players? It is going to be tough for me to keep up with eridani, pirates or mechanema after the first couple rounds, I think. It wouldn't be so bad if I were the 1st or 2nd player, but I am 5th. The good stuff is going to be gone before I get a turn for the first handful of rounds, I think.

Exiles next to Orion should be an interesting choice. I think you and me can be good friends - you probably want to stick mostly to the outer sectors where the materials are, while I want to fight over the money in the centre. :D

For hydrans I think you'd want more of the first column techs to be out. You want to *always* research two things at once as Hydrans, so early on you need some cheap stuff available to be able to afford two tiles at once. If Khell or Gnaw pick Hydrans, they'll probably be okay. For me, as 5th player, I don't think it'd have been a good idea.

Twelve and Tapper, how would you like to orient your homeworlds?

Also, note I updated my first-page post with my selection and homeworld orientation. Please do so because it makes updating things quicker for me.

Well with the pirates on my left and the machines on my right looks like I need to definately be military oriented again this game. I'll take my chances and

Orient homeworld where wormholes are facing Northwest and southwest (both towards the GC)
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I do not have a lot of choice. My first choice would have been the machines.

Now I will go for Sentinels of Magellan

I do not see why we should struggle against each other no. I have not played the expansion, but it would seem to me that the Exiles would work best staying away from the most heavily contested areas of the map.

Oooh interesting. I thought you'd go Lyra and we'd end up with Exiles-Lyra-Hydran side-by-side, making the left side of the galaxy very peaceful :apt:

Whenever you get a chance, have a look at the homeworld tiles and tell me the orientation you want (preferably in your summary post on the first page)

That's what I learned in the last game. I explored to the middle like most races would, but couldn't fight the ancients and couldn't afford to hold more than a few territories with mixed resources. I think the better option is to act like true exiles and stay on the perimeter: a - you can grab discovery tiles from the barren hexes and then abandon them (instead of holding the not-that-great discovery tile hexes in the middle), b - you dont have to worry about other players much, c - you get lots more materials in Tier 3, and since you want to build lots of orbitals anyway and start with the tech then you use those orbitals to get the money and science you want. Essentially, the only planets you need are materials and then you build orbitals for everything else. Orbitals make a bad hex so-so and a so-so hex good, both in resource production and in VPs. The only reason I ended up having more than 3 orbitals in the last game was because I stole a bunch from invading Tattersail.

Rotate my homeworld so that Neither North nor South have wormholes pointing towards them. I think it is one click clockwise.

Tatts, I'd be very interested in an early exchange of ambassadors if you're game.

Ha ha ha! No way! I thought no alliances anyway?

I can see the benefits ie one extra money slot or whatever but then you burn me to a crisp later!

I'll think on it.

Gnaw, this is what you and me have got left I think:

Hydrani/Terran Federation
Douchebags of Magellan/Terran Union

I'd prefer to try the Hydrani, but I don't care really.

Gnaw's got 4 options:

Magellan
Hydrani
Terran (and Khell can still pick Hydran if he wants)
Terran (and Khell cannot pick Hydran)

I think we can all agree that it'll be nice to not have to scream across the board at other people, telling them to stop letting Lyra or Planta turtle :apt:
