No silver sword yet. On ch 1 in a jungle area going to get an ingredient to help me fight a Kayren and these 3 Drowners are just spanking my ass so hard time after time. Ugh!!!

You're in Flotsam - there's a whole buttload of content in the little village, and you probably shouldn't tackle the Kayren for a little while yet. For that matter, venturing out into the forest without a silver sword isn't a great idea either. IIRC you should start out the chapter with a diagram for a silver sword, try getting the supplies to make that. Plenty to loot in boxes and barrels near the front out of the town. Or you can try buying from vendors with all your hard earned money from gambling.

In terms of things to focus on upgrading, I always max out my roll first, and try to put puts into the ability that lets me not take 200-300% when attacked from behind... because I'm always rolling into groups and promptly get backstabbed. Quen's also your best friend, I never got into a fight without it up, especially on the harder difficulties.

In order to find Silver, you need to explore the cave system that's by the entrance to Flotsam, where you came in with Roche carrying T'riss, by the docks.

Those caves are full of nekkers, though, so be VERY careful about getting mobbed. The Aard sign allows you to knock back attackers, and sometimes you can finish them off when they are stunned. If you can't find it, then trigger Malena's quest in the outskirts village (same one where you found Cedric) and follow her quest marker to the cave.

Remember: block doesn't work on monsters, so roll is literally your best friend.

I never really played TW2 w/o a silver sword (b/c I always import a TW1 save, which means I have an extra in my inventory), but I can see how tough it'd be without one.

I ll try and back track to the city then. The game is fairly complex to what I'm used to and I haven't grasped shit yet. How do you lvl gear up? I did get a diagram yes but couldn't build it with the shop keeper.

You don't level gear up, but you'll often find schematics for new gear. You can also enhance your gear with certain upgrades, the number of which you can apply to any one piece of armor is dictated by the number of upgrade slots it has. One of the annoying parts about Witcher 2 though is that if you spend all your time scavenging for components for the good gear, you can often just move along in the story line a little bit and run into something that immediately obsolesces your old armor.

Silver ore is a tough one to find though, like Mentalist mentioned there's a lot in the cave near where you entered Flotsam. But you can sometimes find it lying around, and craftsmen sell it too (I think the dwarf smith guy just off the main square of Flotsam sells it).

All this talk of Wicher 2 makes me want to play it again for the... 6th time? I think I may like it more than the Witcher 3. Scandalous!

I seem to remember a pattern to the gameplay.. new area=new side quests, new schematic for sword. Once you finish sidequests and get components for better sword, then you can take on a boss and head to next area.

That's what I found to be quite linear about the game - the weapons scale at a rate that means you never get a much better weapon, as you move area once you've upgraded where the mobs are then tougher.

I still never finished W3. No where near, in fact. Maybe I'll have another look since it seems to be everyone's favourite game!
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

You can also buy a silver sword from the merchant near the harbor, if you have enough money. Just loot the boxes near the harbor may either yield enough silver to build a sword with the dwarf smith or, if you sell the stuff, enough money to buy it from him.

If I'm honest, Witcher 2 is still my favourite as well. ^^

I reinstalled Witcher 3 yesterday for the last DLC, and it's like coming back to an old friend. I love this game! I really do. Probably in my top 5 of all time.

I've adopted a strategy of avoiding all footage and discussion of Witcher 3s story. I'm hoping that in another year or two the game will have faded enough in my memory, that I will be able to replay it and enjoy it one more time.

That may be easier said then done. It would be hard for me to forget the Bloody Baron and his family and the Botchling > Lubberkind (aka Dobby the House Elf)

And of course The Ladies of the Wood. Yuck! How can anyone forget them. Hearing the sounds of flies from one and another having a burlap bag of human parts hanging around her neck. Posted Image

No silver in this cave.

There should be loads ... have you checked the rocks / sacks / barrels, I can't remember what the exact container is. As for finding the dwarf merchant, from the first entrance to town where you first arrive, keep going straight (don't turn left immediately) until you can't go straight any longer, then turn left and go up that street. He should be by a forge on the outer wall of the town.

No silver in this cave.

That was the only place in Act 1 where I found Silver, weird.

Unless there's another cave system I'm thinking of (which is possible)

As for Malena- eh, take your pick. It's not a particularly meaningful choice either way.

I've just put on W3. Feels like an age since I last played.

First thoughts.. after Horizon, everything looks worse. So I'm outside Novigrad; walked into a few houses, then rode into the woods a little way, and found a bandit camp. Then realised I have completely forgotten how to fight.
Blasted a few signs which didn't do much, got hit a bit and realised I've also forgotten how to heal. Dodged about and managed to kill all four, but now my sword and armour are damaged, and I'm overburdened from the loot. Then I opened the inventory... goddammit, why do people like this clusterfuck of a system? I have a few swords I can obviously sell, but I also seem to have about 300 different types of ingredients. I really really hate having to spend game time sorting through 12 types of sword just looking for the best one to equip.

I'm planning on doing a few sidequests and seeing if it grabs me again. Maybe I need to sell a load of crap and simplify my inventory problems. There are some good stories here, I just get put off by the sheer stupid amount of stuff accumulated in the inventory.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I master crafted all the ursine gear when I beat the game. And then playing out some of the side quests and the DLC, I master crafted all the feline gear. I realized for my game play style, feline was the better fit for me. I would like to master craft the others to see what they are like, but damn, some of those ingredients are hard to come by. I picked my Witcher gear more by their visual appearance than their properties. I thought that most of the gear looks terrible, hell most of the regular clothes does as well.

The Ursine gear looks too heavy and alternatively the feline armor too light and flimsy.

But I loved the Wolven armor's look. Especially as it gets upgraded. I was very happy when it added as DLC.

What I never did understand was why the coolest armor set, the one you start out the game wearing, wasn't upgradable. That was by far the most professional looking and combat suited armor set. The intervowen chain, the spiked heavy shoulder pads. Geralt looked badass in that thing.

Yeah, Geralt's default gear is pretty badass looking. And I totally wanted to get the wolven gear master crafted, but I rolled the dice on putting my resources into ursine and feline. Now alas, I'm in the position of hunting down the rare ingredients to master craft the others.

Anyway, the ursine is great for taking damage, but the feline, damn, it's great for dodging around your enemies and striking them. I would go into bandit camps dressed to the nines in feline gear, and wielding the feline steel or silver swords and just decimate.

I rank it high also (maybe not in my top 5 all time though). It definitely makes my top 5 for the current gen consoles however.

Excuse me while I go into fanboi mode . . .

I bought a new graphics card a couple of weeks ago and decided to ramp up the W3 to 'ultra' settings, just to see. Dear God, it's stunning! Anyway, inevitably this led to me dropping Dragon Age: Inquisition and finally getting stuck into Blood & Wine. And I'm loving it, every second. I thought it would be good, but it's so much more than that. I've spent around 30 hours on it so far. It's almost like having a full-blown Witcher 4. Spent some time crafting to get my Grandmaster Wolf armour and swords, and found Aerondight. Got some mutations (currently using the one where Aard has a chance to chill/freeze/insta-kill enemies, damn it's fun!).

The main quest is fantastic. I love Anna Henrietta, the way she doesn't take shit from anyone - she's brilliant Posted Image

Oh it's my favourite game of all time, without a doubt. It's knocked Metroid Prime and Resi 4 and the original X-COMs down a peg or two. I don't want it to end.

Oh yeah, that's right, with Blood and Wine you could "Grandmaster" forge your gear. I totally grandamatered the shit out of all my feline gear. After which I was able to tumble around like a meth addicted mad man. I used to pull off so many of those bad ass kill animations on multiple bandits (like taking the head of one and then whirling to split another from collar bone to hip.

Isn't Toussaint beautiful? I totally maxed out my estate there and hung all my beautiful armor and swords.

Blood and Wine is probably the best DLC released for any game.

So I'm playing through this again on NG+, I had a hankering after waxing lyrical about the game to my cousin (who at the time was about 3 quarters of the way through the main game) and his girlfriend. Figured I would go on Death March, I need the 2 difficulty trophies and I kinda wimped out when I did the game the first time and just did it on normal difficulty. I've been killed by wolves 4 times! Strangely enough they are the only enemy that's killed me including the level 71 (I'm level 58 for comparison) Wyvern at the Lornruk lighthouse, which I find weird tbh, I think it's because my dodging/movement has degraded seriously since it's been so long since I played, wolves just surround me - plus they hit like trucks lol

This is the first time I am playing Wild Hunt after having played Horizon Zero Dawn and the dodgy, choppy movement is soooooo noticeable now. Don't get me wrong I still say this is the better game, but god damn do I wish Geralt had Aloy's beautiful, fluid movement!
