Points-wise, alliances/ambassadors are all about the same except for EM having a -3 as Betrayer. There's no big gap in technology progress either: the lowest is 0 (khell) but the highest is only 4 (IH).

Twelve is dominating sectors:

twelve - 15
Khell - 12
D'rek - 11
CF - 10
EM - 8
IH - 5

EM still has the best reputation by a little bit and Khell is too much of a pacifist to have any:

EM - 10
CF - 8
twelve - 6
D'rek - 6
IH - 6
Khell - 4

Racial bonuses are probably the biggest swing, giving Khell the lead and mitigating my losses:

Khell - 7
D'rek - 4
IH - 1

OP images updated. EM's turn to kick-start us off.

Also, a reminder that this is the last round that alliances can be formed/betrayed/changed/etc - none of that is allowed on round 9. (You can still be a traitor to your diplomatic relations on round 9, though)

Conifold Field!!!

I've never been convinced by conifold field as a technology... it still only takes 1 antimatter shot to kill you with one conifold field. I can see how it has it's uses if the galaxy is very missile heavy and you have no other counter or you don't have improved hull, but when antimatter cannons are running wild, I'm not so sure it adds much over improved hull.

Indeed, we are a superior race. Have the direction of play move anti-clockwise please.

IH is probably the only one in a position to use it though, since he has hypergrid and tattersail had taken the zero-point sources. IH, you could put two conifold fields where your improved hulls are now and an improved hull on one of your nuclear drives to have a 9-HP dreadnaught - 3 AM hits to kill! Might be the only way to go if you can't match twelve's crazy initiatives.

Hmm, I was thinking of taking the coniifold field, combining it with my improved and sentient hulls and essentially just sticking with ion cannons and immense durability. Would have to bust out for a better source as well though. Hmm hmm hmmm.

IH/D'rek, what are your plans? I assume that EM will hit CF this round, though I'm not certain. If he does though, that could provide a good opportunity to strike back at CF/twelve, if you are able. I'm very uncertain about how to approach this round myself.

Yes, this should be a more interesting round than the last for sure!

I'm debating what I want to research. I see a few possible strategies for this round, but a lot will depend on what people grab for research the first time around the board. I am really starting to think I'm going to have to flip back to defense for a phase, and then try to pull off something massive in the final phase. I mean, with his material stores IH is going to be able to do some damage to the GC unless Twelve and I put more ships there.

I'm definitely glad of that quantum grid research from last turn. 7 moves before I have to even start thinking about stretching myself too thin!

I'm debating whether to snap up the quantum grid or simply take a couple of influence discs off. Or neither.

I'm going to move to counter twelve first thing - don't want to let him profit from my losses by grabbing Tatts' now-empty hexes. So I won't be able to research anything. It'd be good if you, EM and IH can grab anything we don't want twelve or CF to have.

I think twelve would get the confiold fields if he could. If nothing else, he'd put them on his starbases to make them a colossal pain in the ass to fight.

Conifold field and/or improved hull I can see them wanting. Maybe a new drive for CF.

LOL. Love it.

I was hoping you would have researched the first round as I was going to move to take Tats Homeworld. Still will probably. I feel taking the traitor card will be worth taking that hex over. Then I will also free up another spot for additional reputation.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

@ D'rek,

Just noticed on the board,

I won against your orbital. Does that not mean it is destroyed and that you should have taken back the pop cube?

I'll probably grab one of the techs in the top 2 rows (quantum grid or power probably) or conifold field, depends how everyone else researches. Twelve and CF are stretched pretty thin, so we will see what opportunities present themselves.

I did take it off the map back to my graveyard.

Then in the upkeep phase I re-colonized it.

I'm falling out of love with the idea of conifold field. I can just upgrade my ships with more sentient/improved hulls instead, and they won't need extra power. Which means I might go for the quantum grid.
