I'll probably grab one of the techs in the top 2 rows (quantum grid or power probably) or conifold field, depends how everyone else researches. Twelve and CF are stretched pretty thin, so we will see what opportunities present themselves.

I'm falling out of love with the idea of conifold field. I can just upgrade my ships with more sentient/improved hulls instead, and they won't need extra power. Which means I might go for the quantum grid.

Quantum Grid is good. That's probably what twelve wants, too (he has exactly enough science for it)

If EM were to take that wormhole generator (i think he can), he could bypass CF's ships in Beta Leonis and easily go straight to CF's homeworld.

Just saying :p

EM has only like 6 science, I think wormhole generators is off the table for him.

Actually, EM is nowhere near being able to take that tech :p

@ D'rek,

Just noticed on the board,

I won against your orbital. Does that not mean it is destroyed and that you should have taken back the pop cube?

I did take it off the map back to my graveyard.

Then in the upkeep phase I re-colonized it.

How does that work though? It had hulls and guns and a source and I beat it in combat, and it's considered a starbase. I thought that meant it was destroyed.

I know regular orbitals aren't destroyed, but yours are a special case where they are starbases no? Maybe FAQs answer my question.,

if we destroy a ship it is gone, so he is asking if the same applies to your orbital.

Ah, I see. Actually a point of contention in the past according to the Space Internet.

Consensus seems to be thus:

You are supposed to think of it as destroying the orbital's defenses...not the orbital itself since orbitals cannot be destroyed at any time by anyone. No matter that it is considered a ship for all other intents and purposes.

Also from the OP races reference:

  • Cannot build starbases. Orbitals which have an Exiles population cube function as Exiles ships - they cannot move but fight and pin like starbases would. Their blueprints are different from starbases. When they are destroyed in combat, the orbital remains but the population cube is removed to the graveyard. Your opponent draws 1 reputation tile per orbital eliminated in combat.

Can I flip a colony ship and research orbital? (I remeber IH doing it alot, never cared to look whether I could do it too or not.)

If not I research coinfold field. (just because I want.!)

No that is his race specialty. You can trade 4 money for an additional science to purchase the orbiatal tech if you like.

Forget my ninja edit above.

I trade the money for orbital tech.

Because I realized that field needs 2 power instead of the one I was counting on.

I may be a while making my decision guys, sorry. Unsure how to go about this - gear up for an offensive, buckle down for a siege, or give up areas voluntarily and retreat back into something more manageable. Or none of the above. Feel free to fling suggestions at me!

You know what they say... the best defence is a good offence!

You are majorly short of actions so you want quantum grid. That should allow you to upgrade your ships into something that can take a couple of twelves antimatter cannon hits, which should enable you to defend yourself effectively. You'll probably have to lose some territory, but you want to make people waste ships taking territory you intentionally want to bankrupt. If you upgrade your ships you can pose a serious threat to twelve and CF (you want each of your ships to have 5 or 9 health). Conifold field would be nice for that but you lack actions and power to do that.

@Khell,

of course, IH's main concern is that Twelve *doesn't* get the quantum grid...since it would hurt him. Our alliance has no need or interest in attacking you, given the weakened state of IH and d'rek. We can make up the VPs in better ways muahahahahahaha

So do what works with your overall strategy. You get lots of VPs from those shrines, and are already the point leader without having had to spend really any money on your millitary. I'd say what you're doing works and it's not necessarily a good idea to pivot into full combat mode when you seem perfectly able to stay ahead on your race's own merits.

But then again I'm biased too. Just sayin IH and drek are in a bit of a pinch and it's in their interest to see you threatening us from the other side. I'm just saying you don't *need* to.
