"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I'm reading this now. The martial arts series, Cradle, is extremely good and moves past being a kinda cookie cutter progression fantasy at the end of the first book. It gets ridiculously cool very fast.

His Elder Empire dual narratives thing isn't worth your time. Not enough cool, not enough distinct elements of story, and overall, falls flat.

Cradle is good enough I am willing to try again. I'll get a review back here when I'm done.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I agree with all this, but I actually like the elder Empire books too.

Not that i can think off offhand - I picked up the whole trilo on audible's last sale - but 'better than Coldfire' is going to move it substantially up the list... no pressure.
