L. E. Modesitt, jr.'s The Magic of Recluce and 18 of its sequels/prequels are 2.99$ each on Kindle (Canada and USA).

Did he ever stop spelling out action words? Or does he still do that? I could not read much of his stuff as a result.

I read three or four of those, found he was more or less retelling the same story each time... person learns they have black/white/grey magic, person's magic makes them outcast among opposite black/white/grey leaning home place's people, person finds acceptance among other magic people, confronts more powerful bad person, triumphs, gets with love interest, discovers it's ok to be different... . There were some interesting ideas but at the end of the day just didn't hold my interest.

Nope, he still does that.

Recluce books are like AC/DC albums. You like one of them, you like all of them. Or you hate everything.

Comixology's having a big Red Sonja sale for the next two weeks (ends Thursday 5/17). I highly recommend the 3 Gail Simone volumes, and Marguerite Bennett's "Falcon Throne" is pretty great, too:

I'm kind of a sucker for Red Sonja stuff now, but I feel like I've already read the cream of the crop. I do need to get to Amy Chu's run one of these days, though...

Amazon is currently having a promotion for their Kindle Unlimited. 3 months for $1.99. You have to be a member of Amazon Prime, not sure if it's region locked but definitely applies to US.

Mainly has indie books but I've found several series that I've enjoyed through it.

Bah, I'm a little cheesed that Elysium Fire was listed under the monthly deals, so I put off purchasing it right away, and now it's back up to $10...

We'd need a new bet, I think.

Then again, Ser Patrek of King's Mountain's demise was utterly satisfying and I'm okay if I don't die in any other books. Though if Erikson, Kay, and Bakker would like to off me horribly, I'd be much obliged! :D

I got it for cheap and it's on deck in the next couple months. Yay!
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I agree. I even contributed the Kickstarter campaign for book 3.

Guy Gavriel Kay's Children of Earth and Sky is 5.99$ on Kindle. Not the best deal ever, but Kay's ebooks are rarely discounted. . .
