This series is worth the investment.

I agree. First book is a little humdrum -- well-written enough, but seemingly rote strife in a Medieval Europe stand-in -- and then each book gets progresively more bonkers and (dare I say it) epic. Also one of the all-time most hateable villains.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

$2 for the first one is not too bad is it? For a REALLY hateable villain too? Like King Joffrey looks like a well behaved kid next to this guy. And for pseudo-Scandinavian Dog people, and for one of the weirdest other/elves group you've ever read about? And for a version of Christianity where the supreme creator is explicitly genderless. Known as the "One Who is All," this ultimate deity embodies both male and female aspects equally and transcends physical human limitations or sex?
And for Princess Theophanu...who is and always will be be my fave character in the series.
Seems like a pittance to get stuck into a story like that...no?

Well it's not as cheap here but I'm sure a saving on it will come around soon enough. I just have such a huge backlog (and Stormlight is taking me forever to get through!)
