Will Wight's CRADLE series (inspired by Chinese Xianxia type stuff) is FREE on kindle today, books 1-7 (book 8 is about to come out, so that's my guess as to why)...and while I've only read about half of book 1 myself so far, it's really fun, light and enjoyable.

And you can't beat free for 7 books.

And from what I hear Will is a really nice dude in real life.

I really enjoyed this series. It's not particularly deep, but it was enjoyable.

Agreed with IH. They’re a lot of fun, and get better as you go. I’ll be reading book 8 tomorrow.

fuck Margaret Atwood. She's a NIMBY in my city and a self-important jerk who only writes fantasy when it's convenient for her pocketbook.

Erikson doesn't like her much either.

Tor.com's Sep/Oct free short story collection is available now: https://tor.com/2020...ion-newsletter/

It includes a GIDEON THE NINTH spinoff story, about young Palamedes and Camilla of the Sixth House, titled "The Mysterious Study of Doctor Sex".
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch
