Qadi are mages.

I forgot about the Qadi. So even though fener's faction isnt totally known, it's narrowed down to two out of the seven.
Fener being a qadi is actually an interesting Idea. The vote stopping ability he is accused of having is pretty powerful in that it hit so many people and they were far from each other, and Tapper has said that Qadi have very powerful, but costly, roles.

HoA has also had mages and I'm sure there are certain roles in other factions that could be mages too. There's also retainers and items and upgrades that let non-mages become mages or use scrolls. So even assuming that the message saying Fener is a mage is honest that doesn't really narrow down his faction with any certainty though you could say it is more probable that he is Qadi or CoV.

If Fener is hanging around the Northern Desert, that might make him slightly likelier to be Qadi or CoV, as it's generally agreed that those factions (at least some members) started the game around there.

I don't think the Chief Teacher title would be a thing that was adjusted, though. That was one of the titles which were the objective of the previous game and was won (read: bought) by the person playing Tepan.

If I understand the role, he has an automatic lynchproof and, even if he is killed, he'll come back three days later. I can only think just because he has the resources to do so and wants to hold on to the lynchproof as long as possible...but that strikes me as a not-too-convincing explanation.

Heh. Don't forget that we are 'assuming' that the person building up Northern Desert of Mordor (i.e. Sauron) is Fener. I think it is, but it may not be.

Also, the buildup could be two players. Which, I think, would mean they are desperately trying to figure out who the other one is.
