And another one recently intro'd on the Clone Wars, but regardless, Chewie is iconic and ageless and a stoopid easy way to connect any new trilo to the first and prequels.

I know there's a great throbbing loyalty to the Extended Uni out there, but telling Disney 'oh no you can't use Chewbacca because we offed him in a book back in the 90s that was read by about .5% of the movie-going audience' would be like telling Obama he couldn't raise offing Bin Laden in his election campaign.

I think it would be great to visit the Galaxy pre 5000 BBY. The Essential Atlas guidebook talks about some structures like the Shawken Spire and other wonders of the ancient world. Since the time frame is largely unexplored it won't clash with EU material, or else something set between Legacy of the Force and the legacy comics or even after. The possibilities are really endless.
Just ideas, but I'd much rather see a new angle on the universe then a return of characters from the movies.

Me too, but the odds of that happening within this decade are slim to none. They'll go the safer "Next Generation" route, hand it off from Hamill/Ford/Fisher to Shia LaBoeuf or whoever.

GeekTyrant got its hands on the next issue of Entertainment Weekly, which has an interview with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy. In the interview, she revealed that the plan for "Star Wars" is much more aggressive than previously thought.

When Disney first acquired the franchise, the goal was to release "Star Wars: Episode 7" during the Summer of 2015 and then have the next two films ready by 2017 and 2019. But according to Kennedy, the studio will actually release "two or three films a year."

I'm not quite sure how that would make sense though. The reason why they can do that with the Marvel universe is because they have an established group of characters with their own solid back catalogue of stories and comic book series. How will this work with the Star Wars universe and what would be the culmination of the stories? Are they going to take different Expanded Universe books and slap them together? What will the "threat" be?

There was a cartoon series, Droids, though iirc that was late 80s. I actually liked it.

I remember seeing what may have been the Droids movie, it had a giant robot with a huge robot face that was powered by picking up droids and throwing them into its furnace. All I really remember is its death scene (spoilers the villain dies) and what I'm hoping against hope wasn't a love interest for R2D2.

Boomerang Channel was playing both the Ewoks cartoon and the Droids cartoon for a while a few years back, but I don't think they're on anymore.

I've heard that Matthew Vaughn (who I really don't know much of anything about) might be directing the upcoming movies, but it's not confirmed.

As a side note, my son has started watching the prequel trilogy before he goes to bed at night. I hadn't watched them in years and I remembered them being pretty sketchy, but damn. I'll have to see how the third movie holds up, but the first two are complete shit. The first one is just plain boring with no real focus, and the second one suffers from some truly abysmal writing. Every scene with Anakin is annoying as he's whining or being a complete fucking creep toward Padme, who went from being a strong-willed woman to some mindless bimbo who somehow is turned on by Anakin's infatuation. Every scene ranged from mediocre to cringe-worthy. The fact that they had to stuff every single reference they could to the other movies was really stupid as well, although I'm sure it works for a target audience of ten-year-olds (which I was at the time, and I remember loving these movies...I have to apologize now for dragging my mom to the theater about 10 times to see the second movie). Also, now that I think of it and since I'm in rant mode, beyond the shitty character development for Anakin they completely destroyed any sympathy I might have had for him in Episode III. I don't give a fuck that he suddenly turns "good" again by saving Luke - this guy butchered kids in cold blood.

Personally, I hope that the new movies focus more on character development and dialogue and less on flashy CGI. Episode II was terrible to watch because it was completely obvious it was all done in front of a screen. Give us some shots of real outdoor places, and make the visual style more in line with the originals. The rainbow color scheme for the prequels was really silly, especially given the prominence of gray in the original trilogy (did technology devolve or did everyone decide that starships don't need paint jobs any more?). I liked the old rugged feel of the Star Destroyers and such, everything in the prequels was too sleek. Finally, and it's probably a silly hope to have: get rid of the ridiculous backflip balarina dancer lightsaber battles. I loved them as a kid, and I'm sure a lot of people still find them to be fun to watch, but I can't help but feel that they're silly. They might look cool visually but they don't make a whole lot of sense, at least with the way the battles in the prequels were choreographed. The characters did a ton of spinning for no real reason other than to look "badass" - if their opponents were at all competent they'd simply stab them while they were spinning around or flipping through the air. I'd like to see lightsaber battles (if this new trilogy even focuses much on Jedi) more in line with what we saw in Episode VI (because, admitedly, the battle between Obi-wan and Vader in IV was pretty weak, although it's still a powerful scene, and the one in V is just decent). The camera angles were great and we didn't need to have a million flashy CGI things happening on screen at once to be entertained. The character's emotions were also clearly displayed in how they handled their lightsabers, with Luke adopting a far more aggressive moment after Vader started talking shit about his sister.

Ugh, I could go on and on, there's so much wrong with those prequels, but I'm sure it's all been said before and most of you are probably already in agreement.

Yeah, I remember they didn't even make a suit of the Clone Trooper armour until Ep III so all the ones you see in II are CGI, and basically George Lucas was replaced by one of the lizard people who secretly run the world around the 90's. It's the only logical explanation.

I fail to see how SAVING MONEY BY NOT CONSTRUCTING the costumes is such a bad thing? Sure, they looked a bit cartoony...but this is STAR WARS, not SCHINDLER'S LIST.

It never fails to bug the shit out of me when people rag on the use of green screen and CGI in the prequels. They saved huge quantities of money doing it that way. Sure the prequels have a garish hue and style, but that's never bothered me. They were pioneers of CGI, and without them you'd never have seen half the stuff out today, the myriad of films that use ILM for effects. It's a process, and it's not been perfected yet...but if it allows for fantasy worlds to be more realized fully than having to have a big set, I'm for it.
