I saw it last night and really enjoyed it.

There were some stuff I didn't enjoy, like typical JJ bullshit;

Yeah, I liked it, a lot. It had the distinct smell of Star Wars, and it is a good smell. And those people who go "You can't like Rise of Skywalker and be a true fan of Star Wars" can go do despicable and unenjoyable things to themselves!

The guy who leaked the whole plot, was the one who originally noted the full force ghost scene, and then revised it a few weeks later and added the addendum about “ghosts” and China. So if he was right about the plot, it stands to reason he’s right about the capitulation.

Good to hear everybody is enjoying it. Probably still going to wait till its on Disney+, unless i magically get a free weekend with no work or family. But i just dont care about the conclusion of this series to make that much of an effort.


But i have been jonesing for some Star Wars since everyones been talking about it, so i started a re-watch 1-6 while i'm on the treadmill.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Man it's possible that I hated that even more than QT hates TLJ. I disliked almost every single thing about it. The things that I didn't:

Beyond that, although theacting and general production competence mean it isn't as wince-inducing line-by-line, I thought that was prequel-bad.

Yeah, I feel like JJ really messed this up. I mean, I can't lay all the blame at his feet, there was definitely a lot of planning mistakes that led to this, but this is definitely my least favourite in the trilogy.

It had some cool, great moments, but overall it was poorly paced, had too many plot points going, and didn't respect the last two films' plots at all.

I didn't hate it, but I certainly didn't think it was above average.


If there was one thing I think they should have done (if this was the ultimate plan, say), was make this a quadrilogy. Split this last movie in two, change the final showdown a bit, remove one of the plot lines, and you've got yourself two solid films. Alas.

I give it a 6/10.

It's just interesting that people have such opposite reactions from the same movie. It just goes to show how different expectations, age, who you see it with all make for such a variety of outtakes.

I think for me personally that for the first time in years I ticked all the boxes of the target audience that it was aimed at. And I've got to say, adding the kids into the mix changes things significantly. Theres always a part of you indirectly monitoring their interest/boredom levels, watching what they react to most, and when they're looking at me to see how I've just taken something.

And this movie, from that point of view, was a blast. They were engaged right off the bat, dumbstruck by

laughed at funny bits, and were glued to it right to the end. That doesn't often happen at the cinema with actual kids movies. It was my favourite SW cinema experience - and theirs too. So comments about pace? It was perfect from my perspective.

Whereas - some people are straight up crying about it. Palps won, Skywalkers ' lost', other movies irrelevant now, everything... massive disappointment. I'm sad for them but I can't help feel that high expectations and projecting your own ideal version onto something before you've even seen it is always going to lead to upset.

I actually think, again for me at least, that this movie makes the bits of tLJ I wasnt so happy with much more palatable. Far from highlighting differences and conflicting goals, it makes me want to sit and watch all three together.

I think you and I had roughly the same experience of the film. I really loved it, for me it's by far the best of the three and does everything I want a Star Wars film to do.

There were also tears for me. I remember watching Return of the King at the cinema as a teenager and feeling so bereft at the end because there would be no more Middle Earth films. Not to anything like the same level, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a tiny bit of the same for the end of the saga.
