I am one of those gamers that have been waiting for more than a decade for a decent Space sim. I loved all of the Wing Comander games back in the 90ies, played through every one of them. I have been reading these stories about the return of Chris Roberts last weeks and now there is a trailer online:

(btw couldn't imagine no-one had been posting thism but I couldn't find anyting about it.

IGN has an article about it. It sounds great, hope they put a good amount of effort into single player, I'm not a fan of multiplayer games... The IGN article seems to say that multiplayer will be the focus, which I'm a little wary of, I don't want other people coming in and blowing me up.

I've been waiting for a good space combat sim since Freelancer (2003), still one of my favorite games [for a while I thought I couldn't put it on my new computer, then a couple months ago I learned that I could! made me very happy]. Every time I read a review for a new space combat sim it says that they are horrible. I tried X3, but the learning curve was way too steep, I had no idea what was going on. So I have beaten Freelancer at least half a dozen times since I bought it, maybe closer to 10 times.

If you follow the tutorial and subsequent missions, I thought the learning curve for X3 was alright. The nice thing about that game was that you'd end up in a proper cruiser after a while. Can't wait for the new X: Rebirth to come out.

That's right, and have to agree on that one. Still, Chris Roberts tells in the longer version about a single player campaign. Anyway, I love the way it looks already and the ambition of it's makers is promising.

After hitting $1,000,000 on their site they've now launched a Kickstarter for extra awareness, and for those who were a little wary of pledging to a private site.

Man this looks awesome :)

And both they're private site and kickstarter seem to be going well :)

I got the Mercenary LTI package for $30. Been playing the Dogfighting Module since it came out last week and it's very enjoyable, though the flight model still needs tweaking. There are massive discussion about it on the RSI forums and the developers have basically said that they implemented a deeply complex and intricate system that allows them to change almost anything about the flight model, so it's relatively easy for them to change it up. They're just trying to figure out currently what gives the best balance of realism vs pleasure.
