Alright. The alliance has not been accepted and I'll process and start day 3 when I get back from work.

I think maybe that a 24 hour rule should include an automatic pass if broken, and in case of upkeeps perhaps we should include some sort of monetary punishment?

I'd be against the monetary/science/material punishment. It would break the game mechanics and disadvantage someone even further who is probably already not doing well due to the lack of time he/she invests. It is annoying for other players, but a forced pass is probably much worse than anything else, anyway.

Incidentally, I got a game of 5 player Eclipse going yesterday. I got to play the Mecanema for the first time and that was a lot of fun. Upgrading everything to absurd proportions is pretty cool. And buying cheaper makes things pretty neat too.

Eclipse is quickly growing to become my favourite war game (though not entirely a war game :p).. I'm looking forwards to the expansion and what the new races will bring.

If we finish this before 2017 and do a second game can I play as pirates? Pleeeeeaaaassseeee? :p

As for forced passing, I think that may be the best way to go. If someone is worried about their availability, they can always post their future actions in advance. They get the disadvantage of people knowing what they plan, but it's better than a forced pass. They could even post a provisional, a la:

Quote

Now - Build two cruisers.

I might not be able to get online in the next few days, so my next two actions are to research Antimater Cannon and Upgrade it over the ion cannons on my cruiser and interceptors. But, if anyone moves ships into my sectors, instead I will use my second and third action to build as many starbases as possible in the sector they invade.

I think the most ideal situation would be to have a moderator that people can send their plans to privately so that person can act upon their best interests in a more complex way if they are absent, and people coudl send basic provisionals to the moderator just to decrease waiting time between actions. But that wouldn't be very fun for the moderator since they're not playing, so I don't know if that would be worthwhile.

I've been following along fairly closely. I never played before and am intruigued by this game. I wouldn't mind being a mod for players that have to submit provisionals. It might help me figure out the game a bit better before I try my hand in a future game.

But it will have to be up to the player to provide clear sets of instructions as I won't be making any decisions myself.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I'd be okay with that - not so much a moderator as just a vault for provisionals. If someone doesn't show up after a while, Twelve dumps their provisional on-therad and we resolve it accordingly?

In other news, Ment and IH haven't decided if they are allying or not, right?

I say to Ment don't do it! IH said he wants go take the center next round, if Tapper doesn't try to contest it (which Tapper *says* he won't). But IH's economy is tight - he'll need all his money to do it, I bet. So for Ment, if you want to play very defensively you don't want to let IH get more money to make his taking the centre easy, as then he'll be very far ahead of you. Or, if you want to play aggressively, you want to make IH have to put everything into the center attack and you can hit him from behind while he can't react

ie: IH builds two more cruisers and flies them plus his interceptor into the middle, where they are all pinned. The build + moves + discs on the board + disc to take the center gives him no money to do more actions with, plus no materials to build anything else with. Ment, who has lots of money, researches neutron bombs and spends two move actions to fly an interceptor to IH's home sector (or builds another intereceptor and flies it to the adjacent orange-brown sector, too). IH can't build any defenses, so Ment blows it up easy and colonizes it, severely damaging IH's resources and getting more for himself in the meantime (especially with Advanced Economy).

So, just saying, you might stand to gain a lot more from not allying than the one cube you get for allying.

Either I'm missing something, or your logic is flawed. It would take me 3 discs to take the centre (well have a 99% chance), I have a minimum of 4 to play with, plus however many more I would get from claiming the centre. If anything I'm in a marginally better economic position than ment is.

And if ment doesn't ally with me and does something like research neutron bombs, well the obvious counter would be for me to move my 3 cruisers into his home territory and then my three cruisers would probably be able to deal with anything Ment could build fairly comfortably.

D'rek is just sowing dissent so we all ignore the fact that she now has two uber-dreadnoughts which could take out any of our fleets. She's been encouraging us all to fight each other from the very beginning. Tapper and ST should move against her now before she uses her 8/8/8 to build an impregnable defence of high tech ships. Dreadnoughts that can shoot 3 times and hit on a 3 are pretty damn scary! And after next turn she'll be able to pop down 3 cruisers whenever she wants. Quick attack her now!

That would be even meaner!!!

(Also, I have 2/6/6, not 8/8/8 you strawmanner you!)

Oh I was reading the totals from your player card, not your upkeep, ok you have an income of 6/6/6. Marginally less scary :p

He makes a good point, IH. You should invade Planta rather than the centre. Morgy's in a great spot of his ships being quite weak compard to yours and he doesn't quite have the science or materials to stop you... yet. Give him another round of accumulating craploads of science and rock and he'll start hoarding up that choke-point and then it'll be too late. You really could make a grab for his Tier I sector and his homeworld right now, though, instead. One of your cruisers can take on like 4 of his interceptors, no matter how he spends on tech and upgrades.

Look at how isolated Morgy is!

Tapper, me and STD are sooo cozy together, by comparison :p

D'rek, sometimes you are my favourite person.

And then you go ruin all that great map making cred by arguing genocide of defenseless moss. For shame.

You know when you are walking down the street and there's a really crunchy-looking fallen leaf just sitting there, waiting for you to smoosh it? And then you do and the crunching sound is like liquid chocolate injected directly into your ears?

That.

A thousand billion times.

Am I missing? something I have the following totals:

Tapper: 15
ST: 12
Morgoth: 11
D'rek: 10
IH:10
Ment: 5

That's counting Tapper and ST's alliance which gives them an extra point each, and the tiles me, you and Morgoth are removing. Wheres Morgoth getting an extra 7 points from?

Planta gets an extra point for every Hex they own.
