So does this mean you have to remake the whole map and player sheets Morgy, because your computer hosting them died?

Ah ok. Thanks for the advice d'rek. Since we can't explore without killing an ancient it's probably better to fortify what we have with ships/starbases.

I suppose we could go straight to building a dreadnought...probably we won't have the accumulated brown again anytime soon and we'll want something that can defend our pitiful 2-system directorate effectively.

As IH said, you can explore to your south.

I don't think it's worth building any ships/starbases just for defense purposes yet:

a} you can use the resources to build bigger ships later
b} building later and combining builds into one action is more efficient (ie building a cruiser and interceptor later, instead of a cruiser now and an interceptor later)
c} no one can reach you on this round, because the ancients block them. At the very least, someone would have to move their ships into the Ancient hexes bordering you, and then move them into your space next round. So better to strengthen your resources intake and abilities now for more long-term benefit
d} You can always build ships in your hexes after someone else moves ships in to fight you. In fact, keeping a big materials stockpile in the bank can be a great deterrent :p

Ok. I didn't think explore was an option for exploring, but now I'm confused.

I have a clear WH from the south side of the southernmost owned territory, but that is 4 hexes out from the centre. Then the only option for exploration is 3I?? Can I explore through a ancient-held territory like that?

If so then great. Probably ment would do the same thing so might as well just make that the Directorate's move for this trip around the board.

Wait, on that page it seems like 3I is not an option because none of its wormholes can touch a square where I currently have a ship or disc.

There's no limit to how far you can go from the galactic centre, but everything beyond 3 hexes away also counts as "Tier III". So you can still explore through the wormhole at the bottom of your Tier 3 hex into a new hex that will also be Tier 3

I think that'd be 4K by Morgy's naming system?

As an example, the double-Ancient hex that Morgy explored up top is 4 hexes away from the galactic center, too.

I see. I didn't understand there was an option for going 4 hexes away.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While sorting out the post-election kerfuffle it was discovered that the Directorate Conservatronic party lost only by a few votes and they have decided to contest the leadership. For now The Directorate Tea Party is still in control and have decided once again to use their cozy relationship with the Liberobotics to vote in favour of exploration of nearby sectors, under the pretense that any pink, girly, science worlds discovered would be colonized first. It remains to be seen whether they will keep that promise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXPLORE 4K, Place influence sphere, face wormholes away from 3I if possible.

if there happens to be a free disco tile, I'll take the bonus

Populate in this order: Brown, Orange, Pink with the remaining colony ships.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It would appear that the Tea Party has other secret priorities, hopefully no suitable worlds will be found for scientific research and it won't become an issue...otherwise things could get touchy in the House of Intergalactic Commons.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EDIT, not 100 percent sure if it was the directorate's turn...if not just do the move whenevs.

Yes, if I can't coach the mac back to life, poor thing.

It'll take much less work than one would think. The main pain will be D. tiles and research, but it should be manageable.

Okie dokie. But are we stuck until it is re-built or are we able to keep resolving actions? If not, maybe we could use the random.org list randomizer? Stick the remaining hex numbers (302, 305, 310, 311, 314, 316) into the list, randomize and the top one is picked? For the discovery tiles, list out the remaining ones
Spoiler

and again randomize them as a list and use the top one?

As it turns, a friend of mine managed to blow some life into the old girl, but the net access is still very patchy.

Current map - Yell if my choices are wrong.

Gah more ancients, I was hoping for a discovery tile (or even better a discovery tile with a grey planet! damn you cf!) Think I'll be cutting the upkeep pretty close this time.

Other than the Ancient, you got the best hex that is left, though - two planets plus a discovery tile, worth 2 VP and has an artifact.

You guys got the two best ones left! Now I'm going to get stupid empty Iota Carinae :p

Right, well I'll buck the trend and:

Trade 2 Science for 1 Materials
Build 1 Dreadnought in Sector 2G

New Resource counts:

1 Money
4 Science
0 Materials

-3 Upkeep

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

I will send an EXPloration probe into 3L. Place an influence disc, colonize and uncover any disco tiles (unless it is the last Ancient hex, of course).

Money: 1 / +6 / -1
Science: 0 / +4
Materials: 16 / +8

And that should leave 3 hexes left in the pile.

Good for me, except I wanted wormholes on 4K pointed away from 3I.

I can request a rotation without spending a point right?

and my order of building population-wise was brown-orange-pink, so that grey planet should have come out of my orange track if you didn't do that already. .

That is, unless you folks think it would be a bad move to close myself off from 3I,

I was thinking to avoid the backdoor into my base, but it's also an avenue of attack to my nearest neighbour....not that I'm going to do that ever....nope.
