My whole story has almost no horror elements in it as I wanted. A lot of action though.
I'm very happy though since I made 40k just now.

Reminds me of my first year. Hang in and do what you can. Next year will come and you can take on the challenge with a vengeance (the act, not the forum member).

How's everybody doing?

I'm at 50073 words. Won!
Still not finished, though. There's a hell of a lot of useless scenes, characters just goofing around, etc...

I need to write 2000 words before bed tonight and I will have reached my 60 000 goal this year. It needs be done tonight though since I will have no time for this tomorrow.
Also, I keep hitting crtl+s after each sentence now which on the forum is useless.

Edit:

I just broke 60 000.

Time for a victory shot then off to bed and a whole weekend of not worrying about writing!

wooha! 50030! i'm really loving the way my characters keep revealing new facets to me, not to mention all the unplanned characters i'm finding buried in the setting. i knew there would be a bunch, since i had less than a page of notes to start this month, but some really great ones have turned up.

anyhoo, congratulations to everybody who participated, make sure n come back next year!

I'm forced to admit defeat. Made some progress, but just had too much going on. I do plan to continue on from my 23k mark. Congrats to everyone who won!

Didn't make it, with only 11,000 words. But ti was a great experience and I think I'll continue with it!

By the by, I'd like some opinions on this. Sometimes I get a sentence that fits in well with the current narrative, but then i consider what I have planned following it and it seems even better then. Does anybody else have this happen to them and how do they decide?

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

All the time. I tend to leave it until I'm making a revision pass to decide if I need to chop and change individual lines, as often whole scenes need to get moved/deleted/added, which might make decisions about single lines irrelevant. Also, the flush of creative heat is not the best time to make that kind of decision, IMO. Best to have some distance so that you can judge effect more dispassionately. At least, that's how my process works.

decide between what? if something seems good, and then seems better, i usually keep it.
