Who watched the premiere of this show?

Holy shitbuckets! that was hands down the BEST pilot to a TV show I've watched since LOST.

Written, acted, and executed perfectly.

Trailer (which doesn't do it justice, but gives you an idea).

I'll be seeing it today and to be honest, at first I thought it was some sort of cheesy show where they find an island paradise and bla bla bla. But after watching the trailer, it looks pretty damn awesome!
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

We need to get word of mouth going on this one since it had lukewarm ratings even though it's been critically a hit with those who've watched it.

You folks gotta watch this show. It's good, but needs word of mouth to rank up the ratings.

Thursday. ABC. Be there.

Don't get too excited Briar. I will have to take the contrarian view and say that it was a perfectly serviceable pilot, but no more than that. Will need to see a few more episodes to see if it can either settle in to a good rhythm, or sink without trace.

Watched it again on Global On Demand to recatch the very first scene and the "crying" scene to make a little more sense of what he meant (sort of).

I just don't bother to talk about the stuff I don't much care for.

Last year I watched probably 6 or 7 of the new shows, and the only one I really crowed about initially was ONCE UPON A TIME. I also mentioned that I "enjoyed" REVENGE and TERRA NOVA...but wasn't over the moon about them. There were 3 or 4 shows that didn't register with me enough to talk about them.

I saw probably 10 movies at the film fest that are coming out wide in Theatres soon and only properly gushed about DREDD. I also noted in the LOOPER thread how I was lukewarm about it.

I simply don't see the point in making threads about shows / movies I disliked. I'll mention those in the TV and Movie ded threads, but otherwise they go unmentioned. So it kind of makes sense that I make threads and gush about the stuff I really like.

Kinda blows your theory to hell don't it Dr. Trouble? :p

And I'm not the only one considerably impressed with this show...look up reviews and I think you'll find a theme.

I have to say, I watched this with extremely low expectations. I was blown away. Not sure how they're going to evolve the story here, but I'm in.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

So I've just watched the pilot episode. I really enjoyed it, but for some reason it didn't particularly inspire me to go and watch the second episode right away. There was only one thing that bothered me about the pilot and that was the ending. It would have been perfect if they had cut to the credits after "Just crazy enough, sir". Brilliant ending, leaves you begging for more. The chilling nature and brilliant delivery of the Captain's speech sets it up and the call back to his and the XO's earlier conversation knocks it out of the park. And based on how it was shot I reckon that's probably the original ending the creators envisaged. But instead they had to tack on that final scene with them hinting about where things would go from there. It was completely unnecessary and quashed many of the good feelings I had about the show.

[rant]This is a complaint I have far too often about Hollywood-made TV shows and films. I really wish the executives would let the writers have the ending of their choice - you can tell a tacked on ending from a mile off and it often ruins the feel of a piece of film. Check out the ending of Source Code, for example, or maybe Hancock. It's clear as day that someone has scribbled "needs more closure" at the bottom of the script and forced them to add something tone-destroying. And the worst part of it is, that's the bit of the film you usually end up remembering the most vividly. I mean, I can understand that the suits are afraid that a dodgy ending will mean bad reviews of the film, but they need to realise that writing a good ending is not something that can be done well by committee. But then, I could say the same about most of their processes.[/rant]

Anyway, I'm sure I'll get round to watching the next episode at some point when I've recovered sufficiently from that disappointment. It's only a small quibble really, but when they mess with the ending it kills my sense of proportionality about these things.

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

Or the last five minutes of Lockout, an otherwise decent movie.

I agree, closure is not neccessarily a good thing. I mean, who the fuck cares that Hancock moved to another city, or that what was in the fucking box.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I watched the pilot. I thought it was only average. What has me worried though is that I have become worried of shows like this one that require a clear vision and predetermined plot to succeed. What happens when it takes off and someone says the show should be extended, what happens when ratings dwindle and we never get even close to a half decent closure. I am of the opinion that this show simply has no where to go. I cant imagine where they writers will take us in season 2 never mind season 3.

I have been burned too many times by the likes of Prison Break, Alcatraz and Awake.

@Cause: I think the problem is that this is how Network TV almost always is. It's very RARE that a set of writers/creators are given the quarter by a network to craft a multi-season TV show with a clearly defined beginning, middle and end. The only show I can actually think of where this happened was BABYLON 5.

You kind of have to either take that chance or not. Not taking that chance would result in almost no TV to watch though.

Most writing teams do attempt to take shows in logical and interesting directions. Sometimes they do so and it divides fans (LOST), and sometimes they do it and it succeeds beyond their wildest dreams (BUFFY). BUFFY is a good example because Joss and the writers basically winged it from season to season, and were even thrown a curve ball when the WB wanted to end it in S5 and another network picked it up and asked for two more seasons....which resulted in some of the most interesting storylines in BUFFY'S entire run.

Sometimes winging it is good.

Sometimes winging it is bad.

This is TV, you kind of take that chance or you don't.

Just watched the pilot and i'm on the fence. The acting was weak but that's standard for a network pilot and i can overlook it. I even given them credit for dropping a few nukes just to up the game a little. What actually has me worried is that i am already predicting the plots of the next six episodes. I'll give it another ep or two but if they can't surprise me i doubt i'll stick with it.

as an aside...

Agreed, Alcatraz being let go was a bitter pill to swallow, that was an awesome show.

I agree that this show gives me the feeling that it's heading for an early cancellation which, I think, is sad. There are simply way too many interesting shows that gets cancelled early on because viewers have the attention span of a fruitfly.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Yeah, but this goes back to Abyss' advice that a show needs to be awesome NOW, not just promise it'll be awesome eventually. LAST RESORT gave you THREE nuke launches in its first hour.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.
