I definately prefer your new take, looke good so far.

Only thing I noticed: boobs don't grow out of collarbones, not out of armpits. They need to be further down a notch or two, with that size and considering anatomy and gravity. Or be smaller. In any case, they should not be growing out of her collarbones.

I bow to your expertise! Your boob-fu Is superior!

I still wanna try a few more Ideas but Yeah I like this one. might rework it to let us see who they're about to fight...also I think its too crowded in all these picks. will drop either Gear or Shan... Most likely Gear

nice, I like it as well! It is a bit crowded, and you could lose a hound but it's not a must.
The stance of Sorry makes me wonder what she is up to. If a girl would stand like that with a knife, I would take a picture and run :p

I really like the expression on her face, very well done! Same for Cotillion :)

Ok second to last batch. neither is particularly as good as the last but I think the ideas are flowing so I can keep shelling out atleast two more before pulling back to make a choice.

How are everyone elses projects going?

Syballe: I know! I feel the number of characters have to drop to make these images work. If I double back to them will have to take out gear. I can't think of any actual scene in the books with all of the characters together. Been thinking of throwing pust into it instead of edgewalker as he's more animated and well...crazy :).

might try for the convo between cottilion and apsalar next as a last push. Edgewalker will very likely have to get minimal attention. In all honesty he/she/it deserves his own pic at some later date in the future.

Just about to start detailing, and I thought I would get some feedback.

The Deragoth

Quote

As large as a steppe horse, but bulkier by far, padding with heads lowered into the flagstoned square. There was something about them that resembled a hyena, and a plains bear as well.
A certain sly avidness merged with arrogant brutality.Their bristly hackles were raised above their strangely humped, massive shoulders. Thick, long necks and broad, flattened heads, the jaw muscles bulking.
Scarred, black hides, and eyes that burned pure and empty of light. (HoC mmpb p. 961)

Want it to look hyena-like but not too much like the wargs from lotr movies either.
Rejoice. For very bad things are about to happen

Thats looking good Corp!

Think it looks great, the rib details are pretty sweet and I think it looks right formwise, though a hyena has more of a hunch to its shoulders.

If worried about proportions, heres a tutorial on animals I thought pretty handy:

Maybe It might help?

Hey thanks for that Dolmen, I've got a couple of magazines that have that same sort of thing.
I should dig it out. And plan these things a bit better, had sculpey on the frame before I even looked up the
deragoth and hyenas and bears and thing.
Just started as a distraction from the dragon I have been working(struggling) on, Not really Malazan, but I'll post it anyway.

How's your Shadow pics coming, any progress?

@Macros, you can always draw with a pencil and paper, don't need the tablet

Bah, I'm actually running a commission so haven't done anything serious buuut effectively its decision time. Heres the final batch of ideas....

I used the three principals of composition here and made the focus all about shadowthrone, Cottilion and Apsalar. I think the hounds and edgewalker are the OGs
of shadow. They give off a different vibe. might have hounds in the background but in all honesty its these three I wanted to tell a story with. Ofcourse the
previous compositions are all valid options. I just need to pick a winner and start building the image from the ground up.

Liking the third the most. But they are all pretty awesome.

Nearly finished the Deragoth, completely rebuilt the back legs, think it helped a lot

This is one new take on shadow. What bugged me in the last one was that it was trying to be both epic and up-close at the same time. The hounds looked wrong and the pieces of the composition where all fighting for focus. With this I think I managed something more unified with a clear focus for all the characters. I was thinking of trying a grander view next (Them looking out to a landscape or something) In this piece everyone looks tense and about to do something overt...but shadow is sneaky. I want to try my oprions and see if I can up the sneaky factor.I think I can make a fair decision once I do all that...

They're all great but this is my overall favorite, on par with number 2 from the final batch. No matter what you'll choose i'm sure you're gonna do an awesome job!

Ok so one vote for the second and third of the new batch and one for Reduex 3s.
I reserve judgement for now but I see why you liked that one Tehol. I'd have
stuck with it wasn't for the clunky mistakes I made with the perspective and angles.

Corp I like the new hind legs and the work you've done with the details. think the
hounds lower spine and waist area are a bit thin or fragile looking. but maybe that's
the look you going for so I'm not too bothered.

^My vote is on the 3rd one Dolmen, looks most actiony. Also, I like monsters.

Excellent work, looks quite intimidating :) Aesthetically, I don't have a problem with the midsection being slimmer. In terms of functionality though, it would probably be slimmer all over (speed and endurance) or more heavily muscled in the back section (explosiveness and strength). Seeing as it's a supernatural demonic creature however, I'm not sure such rules need apply.

I'm completely ignorant regarding everything art-related but i think i can see what you mean, kinda.
I liked it because it has a very "choral" feeling about it, but i recognize that it also feels a little too crowded and dispersed... as you said the Hos and edgewalker distract from the three main subjects.
On second thought i'm appreciating the new approaches way more, so i'm switching my vote to a full support for the second one in the last batch.

Nice work on the Deragoth Corps! The proportions may not be realistic but i think they convey the idea of a horse-sized-badass-hound-demon perfectly.

Ooooh looking very promising corp. I'd say give it more of a prominent chin, like the Tic level epic chin. The jawline will look more robust as to handle those Tusks better.

As for me...

I'm having fun with this one, the expressions are surprisingly crisp. Cheesy captions anyone? I'll start.

Cottilion: Bet you I can choke him.
Apsalar: (O_o)

Cottilion: It's...the end of the line.
Apsalar: (O_o)

Cottilion: Our Azath hunting schedule seems to have been interrupted. Better call Edgewalker, let him know we got...tied up.
Apsalar: (O_o)

Awesome... so you went for a whole new take again huh? XD
loving the expressions, Apsalar's in particular!! I don't know why i always pictured cotillion as more deceptively bland, but that is really good work

Bigger chin added, not Tick big but bigger.
Refined the tusks, probably not right, but it's how I imagined them (til FoD anyway, that scene threw me a bit)

Dolmen - looking good, nothing really to add.
Super-nitpick, Apsalar's face seems a bit long, but maybe that's just me

Haha I am made largely aware of how euphoric ST looks as opposed to the huge monster thing in the background that really just looks bored :-/ need to fix that

aaaand maybe look at apsalars face...

Aaaand see if I can get cottilion to look deceptively bland, which when you think about it makes perfect sense.

Corp I am liking the new chin. Have not read FOD so allow me to plug my fingers in my ears and cheerfully go faaaaalalalalalala :sofa:

it'll stress you out even more so there's really nothing we can do about it after all.
