Scott Bakker was at my local Chapter's bookstore today as I was browsing through some books. Didn't even realize he was going to be there so obviously didn't have my book with me. Wish I had. Noticed that he had Tad William's War of Flowers on his table.

Well the fact that this is the 7th page for this topic should be enough Reave
. Plus it won't hurt my country's economy.
Bakker is probably the best author in epic fantasy since Erikson and Martin came out.

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but does anyone know when book #3 comes out? I finally got the darkness that comes before the other day, and I will be getting the warrior prophet soon, so I want to start reading it nearer the time...

Yeah I agree, this is going to be an excellent trilogy. First one does a lot of setting up for the next two.

OK...that's it.
I will be purchasing TDTCB this weekend. You have to keep up with the Jones's etc.
@ Reave. Enjoy CoSaM, The "Transformation of Martin Lake" is loosely based on the life of William Blake.

I just got the Warrior Prophet, and looking forward to reading it. For those who have read it, do you think it's better or worse than the first one?

Just finished the Warrior-Prophet, only took me half a days reading. Goes into much more depth in Bakker's world, and gives you a load more questions about the Inchoroi and Nonmen and all that. Gives you a better idea of the scope of the overall story as well.

Rich the Great... you have freakish reading speed. Half a day to consume 600 plus pages. All I can say is whoa!

Well when I'm really into a series I generally read very quickly, with no breaks at all. Can't wait for The Thousandfold Thought though.

Better.
Epic fantasy has a tendency to use teh first book to do a lot of the establishment of factions/ and setting. 'Warriror Prophet' is an amazing book - 'TTT' is going to be hot.

I tried to read 'The Darkness that comes before' but I got bored and quit around page 70. Does the book get better as you go along or is it all the same?

It's the same in regards that its' one of the best written epic fantasies to date IMHO
This is pretty common thing I find about people who don't like Bakker's work, they rarely get otu of the first 100 pages.
Defintely pays to read on, you haven't even meant all the principle players yet, or given the book a chance at that point. I would suggest patience whne dealing with epic fantasies as almost by defintion, you have to at least be prepared for the long haul - give the plot a chance.
That said you may just not like it. I recommend reading up to the point at least until you meant the Emperor and his nephew, and Cnaur. If you don't enjoy it at that point, you probably won't at all (I'm not sure how deep 70 pages implies without looking, you may have reached this point, but I know Kellhuss initially starts the first part of the book, IMHO one of the great characters in epic fantasy), and at that point you haven't even scratched the surface.
If you have been introduced to the Emperor and Cnaur and Archamian, and it still doesn't catch you - maybe a time to quit
IMHO only Martin's series is superior to Bakker at this point in epic fantasy.

Ok I'll give it another go. The first time I tried reading it I was always busy and couldn't get in more that 5-10 pages at a time. Mabey thats the problem.
