I was raiding down in northern Africa before the Muslims get together in one large empire. They are all single/double provinces and none of them can stand up to a 2k levy army, and most of them hadn't built anything to protect their gold unlike northern Europe (after my raiding attacks on my first king).

I'm only spawning girls in this game. I haven't had a single son so far on this play through. Seriously, look at that! 7 children, 7 girls. I'm doing alrigth, so I can't really complain that much, but marriage is murder when your heir is female.

Legalise drugs! And murder!

Send your spymaster to improve relations to the kid you want to get married to, then make the marriage matrilineal?

I'm facing a bit of a different problem. Having been actively producing outrageous amounts of children through liberal use of concubines (not to mention Viking's of the Yngling clan seem frighteningly fertile, even when they're homosexual, as Hårfagre's grandson turned out to be) pretty much every Norse nobel left in the world is a product of the same dynasty.
So, every available marriage is incestous to some extent these days. I have to invite courtiers and nobles, but they bring nothing to the tabel and so have no use other than producing children.
It would seem that the dlc made it almost impossible for people of different faiths to marry, but surely there must be some way to overcome this hurdle? I married into muslim families when I was uniting Spain in a previous game, and that was relatively easy to accomplish. I worry that when the catholic world finally gets its act together, I'll be entirely without allies.

Doesn't seem like that will ever happen in my game. I'm past 1066 now and the Karlings are all still fighting like children, the Spanish kingdoms are engaged in a two-century long tug-of-war over Castille and now that England have the Isles they're not really doing anything as far as I can see. The HRE has formed though, so there's that.
The suddenly not being able to marry infidels thing is weird. I can understand the impulse but maybe lower the penalty rather than make it an instant no? It made making allies as Zoroastrian Persia nigh on impossible, but I suppose I was usually marrying sisters and aunts and nieces for the opinion bonus anyway.

Army of 25 thousand? Hah, what pushovers. The Norse Empire fields many times that number.

I MIGHT have been able to take them with my old king, but this one is relatively new so i have to stop people (mostly the Lade Jarls) from trying to gain indipendance 
in the end I gave the Seljuks the land they wanted, inner russia is no place for a Viking,
yet.

To be honest after forming Scandinavia I had a petty 20k... well, there's room for improvement.
Side note: between creating the empire and reforming the norse religion my retinue cap shrunk 50%.

A large portion of my soldiers are raised from the British isles these days, it is true.

Alright, this is starting to go a bit tits up for me. I'm having huge problems gathering enough moral authority to reform my faith, my queen is old and without an heir, I've overextended my reach down into Poland, the Catholics are looking stronger by the day and Norway, Denmark and Pomeria are all part of a independence faction. Speaking of which, can you do anything about factions before they realise their demands?

EDIT2: Hafrid the Wise is dead. New rulerof the Scandinavian empire is Suni I, Nephew of Hafrid and a man with literally no diplomatic skill whatsoever. Childless, I can only wait for the whole empire to fall apart. You think you're doing well, but this game has other plans for you.

So you folks games on here have persuaded me to buy CK2, there's a Steam deal on today - do I buy just the game for £8.74 or the game and all the DLC for £17.49?
Are the extra units and portraits worth it?

The biggest problem with reforming the faith, and something I had not anticipated at all, is that you now suffer the full effect of the pagan attrition effect. I want Finland to go with my shiny new Empire, but my armies suffer 25 % attrition pr month. I do have an excellent tech growth, but I still have some way to go until I acquire military organisation V

Well, there's one way of winning wars against Pagans, and that's keeping a fleet and catching their armies for quick battles and just storming every holding. You're still going to take horrendous losses, though.

Finland has been formed by a sami tribe somehow, and is actually a respectable power, probably the strongest power in the Russia, balkan area. So a blitz krieg like attack wont work I fear.

with the right tec you can avoid taking the pagan penaltys, the military organisation if i remember correctly.
