Takes place before all that 'time' is able to cause such melancholy, tho right.

Might be good. I'm thinking it'll be good.

Well, Korlat also has draconian blood in her too...

Of the brothers I have a theory. Rake drank enough of Tiam's blood to have the power, but he still always retains control.
Silchas drank more than Rake and is closer to chaos. Does that make him more calculating? Don't know. Didn't one of the sisters say that his calculating nature enabled him to survive the Azath? That he planned to be thrown in there?

i think what the sister is referring to is how long of a view silchas takes. to think draconian is to think in terms of eternity, i believe. silchas is calculating enough to see that he could well outlive an azath's lifespan and stay more or less sane that entire time, so he decided it would be better to just take a breather for the next few hundred millennia. before he'd left the tiste worlds, he's said to have seemed '... a man riven by indecision,". he didn't know what to do, and ended up making an alliance and escape plan that got all his followers killed. the chance to be imprisoned in an azath and avoid all the bad karma the tiste were heaping onto themselves was obviously preferable to him. but that's why he's shattered when he learns his brothers are dead. they didn't take the easy way out. he's shattered again, and this, i suppose, could be part of why he dives straight into the heart of the storm this time around.

I just get the feeling that masses of the Tiste Andii scenes and POV are basically just emo whining about their endless struggle against nihilism. I mean all Rake did for millennia is try and adopt loads of different causes to stave off the boredom and apathy the TA were all suffering from. I find it a bit irritating to be honest. Draconus spent god knows how long hauling a giant carriage full of corpses and he's still fairly optimistic. Kallor has had who knows how many empires torn down around him and he's still putting some effort in. But the TA sense of self-pity puts me right off. I am not sure how much I want to read the new trilogy, but I guess I'll give it a bash.

as mentioned above, the trilogy is from a time when the andii were the ones making mother dark turn away. the civil wars and all that, when their blood was hot. the problem with them is that some of them from this time are still alive, and remember making all those horrible mistakes. they infect the younger generations and the horror and dismay are passed down, eventually turning the whole race into these cold revenants, who, yes, come off quite angsty.

but i'm very interested in finding out how they usedto be, especially the three sons of mother dark.
There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

Yes, but the giant cart full of corpses at least had some interesting ones, and new ones were popping up every so often, so a bit of a surprise. Plus the adrenaline boost of being chased. :)

As for Kallor... of course he's optimistic. He's a dick. Jerks always have a lot of confidence.

I'd much rather have a Kallor trilogy than an Anomander one though :)

Hoping to be proven wrong. SE has done it to me before, taken unlikeable or boring characters and made them interesting

I wouldn't. I don't like books/movies where I hate the main character.

It's possible that SE could do a prequel trilogy on many of the more important characters and I'd be interested.

I could handle a Kallor novel. Reading about the Fall of the Crippled God through Kallors PoV and the rise and fall of his first empire, as well as K'rul and crews intervening might be good.

I can't say I likeKallor, but he did grow quite a lot more interesting as the series progressed. It's almost as if he seems to possibly be developing an ever so slight compassionate side. This is only based on SEs books. I haven't read beyond Return of the CG. Maybe it was just indigestion. I liked how he seemed to regret having to fight Spinnock. Maybe not quite regret, but remorseful. It might be scarce but as Luke Skywalker would say, "I know there's still good in you, I can feel it."

I'd most like to read about Draconus and hear his story; such as the creation of Draginpur and his seduction of MD. Or books about the moment when Mother Dark emerged from Chaos and the subsequent following of Father Light might be good. Or even some type of book with collections of short stories about the major events from Malazan history that couldn't justify an entire book itself, such as the Ritual of Tellan, the Chaining, a full detailed description of the Jaghut army and its battle with chaos, battle between the Tiste and KCCM and betrayed of Silchas Ruin by Scandabari(pardon my pure spelling), etc...

I'd like a book entirely about the Seguleh, even.

It's not an Anomander trilogy, it's not about him - it's about the world he lives in, and you ought to know Steve by now...

Indeed. It's a Kharkanas trilogy. Anomander Rake was not the only dude living there.

Draconus forged the sword and Rake only wielded it. and just like when Rake went in to the sword it was for a purpose, Draconus survived in the sword for a reason. Draconus is elder.
