Must be true, I just read it from multiple sources.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I second that.
Truth established for all time.
Or until multiple sources plus 1 has something to say about it.

Mayhaps the help that Envy gave unto Rake took place just before the fight, and not during.
Mayhaps she blessed his sword.

Devil's advocate counterpoint: it was all Draconus' plan to end up in Dragnipur in order to facilitate Mommy D's release. He counted on Rake and Envy doing exactly what they did.

Is this based on facts or just speculation? Because Draconus doesn't strike me as such a generous type...

Utter speculation based on the thinnest of non-hints...
FoD and FoL showed us how thoroughly Drac was in love with Mommy D to the point that he would do inherently stupid things to show his love for her (splitting off his power into a rape rage puppet finnest, joining the battle when he knows that will send the Andii nobles away and lose).
Drac's personality evolves/changes and changes again. He was an asshole to his kids, yes, but by the time we see him in FoD he's mellowed slightly.
Drac tells us over the course of the MBF that putting the gate into Dragnipur was a mistake. What isn't clear is exactly when he realized that. By the time TtH rolls around, he is actively engaged in a plan to free the gate - a plan that could only work from inside - and not knowing, but suspecting, that Rake will be doing something similar. It's not entirely ridiculous to consider whether he allowed himself to be 'killed' so he could put that plan into effect when Chaos was close enough. Yes, he tells Paran to tell Rake to send more souls/fuel, but that could be second thoughts or that he was not ready yet.
Immortals tend to play a long game and aren't afraid of extended discomfort. The suggestion that Silchas allowed Scabby to ambush him and throw him in the Azath in MT is the best example of this.
...again, it's just a passing thing that occurred to me, highly unlikely and i don't really buy it myself.
