Tried Mieville's KRAKEN?

The Squid is good, the Squid is great, go read the Squid. I put it on par with Aaronovitch and Jacka's work, not quite Butcher or Carey but close'ish.

If you love Kraken so, Abyss, you should definitely shuffle Kate Griffin up your TRP pile a bit (I do bang on about those books, don't I). Not quite as all-in balls-out crazy, but she's got that same sort of writing style combined with a huge imagination and love for exploring a city.

Pig Iron, tried MLN Hanover's Black Son's Daughter books? I know the covers (especially the American covers) make them look like the worst sort of lust-and-leather paranormal romance, but they're very much not. Hanover is the alias of a certain Daniel Abraham and he's as good as ever here. It's also, unusually for UF, not limited to one city, which allows a slightly different long-term approach.

After a long time being unable to get the fifth one on e-reader I just found a place I could buy it the other day, so I'm gonna be finishing the series soon. Yay!
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Necro-thread!

I finished the most recent book (Bound). It's extremely solidly written and finally moves Verus into being something more than he mostly was when the series began. Several set pieces are in this book and all are well pulled off.

I think Jacka has gotten better at structuring his books and at moving the plot along without info-dumping or having a teaching session go on too long.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Really enjoying these books. Cannot believe it's took me this long to find them but I've read about 5 in 3 weeks. Reading can be expensive when you find a good series.

The END!?!?!

Ok yeah, I am mourning the "we finally got everything in high gear, especially the action scenes" component of the last book not continuing on for a couple more books.

The train scene was so, so good.

Mad how its the end of the series, it feels like it's just got to an amazing place. I mean issues I want resolved won't be resolved in one more book. There must be more to this universe. There is too much injustice to fix

The other books in series will follow other characters, I think. However, the author's coda at the end says he's working on another series entire with some similarities, but not in the same universe.

I finished this book last night. It was a very fun ride and really did hit all the right notes. It's almost one large rolling battle with breaks taking place over what... 5 days?

I deeply wanted more Slav stuff. That seemed so interesting and I hope Jacka either loops back around to it or works it into the new series. The new character was a bit odd and I dunno what's happening there, yet all the long-standing characters were very well done. I deeply liked the "explanation" for whodunnit that came up here. It works so well with what went before.

Super good ending.
