Just putting this poll up here to gauge interest in the MC users on the forum.

I was pondering this in the main thread and thought maybe some of you would be interested. I've floated an earlier version of this idea before and nobody seemed overmuch into turning off the main server for any significant length of time, so I was thinking we could start doing occasional event weekends (or even just event days), where we either generate a new random map and set some specific group goals to be accomplished during the weekend, or load up somebody's custom survival map and do the same.

Could also have a PvP hunger-games weekend or maybe an every-man-for-himself non-PvP weekend where the winner is decided based on points awarded for meeting in-game milestones (like crafting diamond armor, building a brewing stand, etc...).

One I thought might be fun is Multiplay floating islands. Basically, it is a limited-resources treasure hunt, but we could easily change around the goal to anything that suits us.

Anyway, after we are done, we tally up points, declare a winner (if there is one) and restart the main server.

Frequency, maybe monthly, every 2 months, whatever people want.

Discuss!

I like this idea.

edit: especially the hunger-games suggestion. Could be extremely fun, and last only a few hours (a couple days at most).

You don't have a 'hell yes' vote, so I only voted yes.

Go for it, although I do struggle with weekends I'll be on as much as possible.

Yeah, sounds good. Will this be on hardcore mode? You die you're out?

Thats cool, unless its PvP.

Or perhaps every other ones, as opposed to seeing if we could build something as a community one weekend.

Like a huge map of one of the Zelda games, or a giant international airport or something? Would have to post maps and denote scale.

Hm, will the regular server map be available? I'm not able to be online enough to participate in this, but I would have liked to play a little on the regular server.

It's not that important though. I'm not opposed to you guys trying out other stuff for fun.

There does seem to be a way or two to have two servers running at the same time - might depend on HiddenOnes server guy though, I've not looked into it much at all. Could then leave the world up and have another alt server for the custom maps.

If you get this up and running I would be interested in joining. Haven't played the game since it went into Beta I think.

I understand that point of view for sure, but it realistically be only 1-2 days at most every few months.

And if it's a group co-op thing then you can just co-op with us!

I'll post plenty of notice as to map type, hours of operation and what to expect anyway, so you'll know.

Ok, so I've been looking at seeds and downloadable maps. There are all kinds to choose from, like survival maps, lone island maps, floating skyworld maps, etc etc.. but many of them were made for old versions and probably don't work properly with the newer features and randomly generated stuff like dungeons, holds and towns.

For the first event let's try a cooperative effort just to keep things simple. I can look for an interesting-looking 1.2/1.3-compatible seed, but not one that strains us for resources. Could always just do a rando map too.

What do you think about just "beat the game in a day" or "beat the game in 2 days" as a goal for our first event? That would mean starting from nothing and killing the ender dragon before the time limit expires. Nobody is op.

Any better ideas to spice things up? I'll look at what else is available for pre-made group survival maps too.

Also, this weekend is bad, but I could probably do the next one. No real issue starting it up anytime people want though. I'd like to aim for max participation even if it isn't convenient for me to get on much.

I think I have found us a good map. It's called Eldaria Island.

It's a fully custom map with ores, a custom nether and an end portal so we can finish the game.

http://www.planetmin...0---end-portal/

Have a loook. Seems pretty good.

Our only rules concern the portals. The end portal isn't modifiable obviously, but the nether portal is pre-placed so that it links to the custom nether. So. No building nether portals, but other than that it's 100% freeform.

Looks good to me!

I'm terrible at the end dragon. Heh. Is this Hardcore mode or no? If it's not, we can definitely do it in a weekend. I'm going to record, if you don't mind.

I DL'd the eldaria map just to give it a try and make sure all the bits were working. It works just fine on singleplayer....big map is big too. Lots of room to send out search parties for minerals and such. I realize anybody can get the download and pre-explore, but you probably shouldn't. Spoilering the locations of the enderportal and netherportal will make it too easy.

I'm gonna leave PVP on too, so if anybody isn't contributing to the effort, they get their ass kicked into next tuesday by everybody else.

which I am kind of hoping turns into a massive fight and subsequent grudgematch. muahaha....

What time works best for everybody to start? Like I say, my own participation time will be limited, but that doesn't matter as long as players help relay info and place lots of signs to describe what they're doing / how new people can help.

I could aim for Noon Eastern this saturday (GMT-5h) as a start time and kill it at noon eastern on Monday. That way folks in the west can start in their AM and the euro/africa zones can start in the evening. Aussies get fucked over as usual, but I figure they're used to it by now. It's 48 hours total anyway, so everybody should have a convenient time to play at some point.

I have no idea if 48 hours is way too generous or way too tight of a time scale. All of this is a bit of a learning process and guaranteed next time will be better. If we beat it super quickly on the Eldaria premade map then I can just re-set with a rando map and see if the group can beat the game again before reverting to the original server.

Sounds good. I'm looking forward to this and hopefully lotsa players will participate. So the goal of this map is to kill the dragon? Wonder if 2 days will be enough to do that.

If it isn't enough time (I bet it will be ample but you never know) then we'll just "pause" the game and save it for the next weekend event.

It would be pretty fun to do a time trial too, where the map is smaller and nether/end portal locations are known so that it comes down to team efficiency rather than lucky searching.

I was thinking it would be fun to experiment with a custom map where you have several floating islands, each geared toward a different task on the way to beating the game. First island for food and basic survival. Gather enough wood to make a bridge to the next. On that island you could have a mine to explore...get enough diamonds and ore to equip yourself for fighting, etc....
