Note to players:

Make sure we create a central resource area where we can pile up iron and whatnot for people who will be logged on later. I can gather and slay and get potions, but I'm horrible at killing the dragon.

How does this sound to everybody for a simple rule set?

  • The goal is to kill the ender dragon by whatever means possible.
  • No cheating or creative mode allowed.
  • nobody is op.
  • No building new ender portals or nether portals on the Eldaria custom map. Only use the ones already constructed in-game.
  • Further to Rule 3, no destroying the existing portals on the eldaria map.
  • Your participation in the game is totally freeform and what you choose to do and how you choose to participate (either help or hinder) is up to you, but remember PVP is turned on.
  • No lava / fire griefing for fuck's sake. Everybody hates that and it isn't clever or awesome.

So I haven't heard any dissent RE my start time. Noon Saturday thru Noon Monday, eastern time. If we beat Eldaria then I'll start a rando map and anybody who wants to try can do it again.

I'd also appreciate any suggestions that anybody has on how to do better next time.

Also, I'm a typer for ingame communications usually, but it might be cool to try a communal voice chat via some third-party program. I never do this though...what's the best thing to use? If we can set up a room or trade usernames beforehand it would make things easier.

Works for me. As for in game communication, maybe ventrilo or skype or something? I don't have much experience using these things. If we can find a free way to set up chat then I'm all for it.

haven't heard any dissent RE the rules either...so I guess we're good to go.

Noon Saturday the 14th thru Noon Monday the 16th.

Server might be down temporarily tonight or tomorrow (ie whitelist will contain only myself) while I fiddle with the map to make sure it's all working properly. It will only take me an hour or so to figure it out so if you can't get on, just try back in a little while.

Okay, so it appears I forgot about an outing on saturday -but- its a family fair, and I still count as one of the kids, so I can probably play some from my laptop. But this means the bulk of my participation will be on Sunday.

sounds like a fun time
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

It's all good. My main participation will be Sunday too. That's why I set the time as 2 days. Max time for people to jump online and chip in.

======================UPDATE:

I will leave it as long as I can, but something came up and I need to leave home earlier Saturday than I thought. As a result I might have to start the eldaria map a couple of hours early...probably closer to 10:00AM (gmt -5h)

No big deal I guess, but sorry to have to change things so late. I'll try to contact Messremb. If he's around I'll see if he can start the server at the normal time. Will update here with the final start time as soon as I can.

==================

In other news, I tested the new map last night. I found the nether portal in a rather obvious spot, but the end portal location remains a mystery. The map is also big. Roughly 3000 (north south) by 2000 (east west). It is a collection of islands surrounded by a massive ocean. I went for a fly out over the ocean to see if there was any terrain out there that might be confused with the main eldaria lands; there isn't. I'm sure if you go far enough you'll get into rando generated terrain again, but most of the eldaria lands are no more than a 2min boat trip away and you are rarely out of sight of land for more than a minute even crossing the widest sea between islands.

======================UPDATE:

Messremb will be around at noon Eastern. He will start the Eldaria map at that time.

That means NO EARLY START as I alluded to above. Will post if there are any further changes
==================

As I mentioned, this map will be big. I'd recommend reading up on the mechanics of handing maps around and creating new maps for yourself. It will be pretty useful to know where the heck we're going. Each island is pretty large - like 500 blocks longest dimension for some of them, so it's very easy to get disoriented.

Do we need a new ip, or will the normal one just take us to the new map this weekend?

No. Normal IP will just jump you into the new map.

We are fully stopping the old one, not running a parallel IP.

Just died to goddamn baby spiders in a massive broken ravine intersecting mineshaft, had melon seeds, 3 diamonds, a stack of gold, and 6 stacks of iron.

I'm having fun playing again, but I'm all alone! I'm just trying to stockpile loot, by which I mean get lost in mines and get killed by spiders.

Turned a triple skele spawner into a mob grinder for dem arrows. Should be a few stacks at spawn base. Or go down to the tunnel, take a right, but don't go down the stairs, theres another straight passageway with torches on the left side that leads outside the mountain. follow the markers, eventually you get to a tall dirt marker with black wool and torches on the top. In the water below that is an opening that leads down to a cave/ruins structure. On the right is the entrance to the collection point.

Nice. We need a general mob grinder that produces everything, but I don't remember exactly how to build one. I have a bunch of ore and loot down at my basecamp down my mineshaft I sank, head to the right when exiting the main base and it's right there.

We are going to have to run this for a week I think. I don't think we'll finish tomorrow. To be fair though, I havbe no idea what we have to accomplish to do whatever it is we are doing.

Just checked the thread, apparently we need to find the nether, complete a parkour challenge inside, and it leads to an end room which is apparently very challenging. So I think our current level of gear is fine. Just get everyone stacks of arrows and a bow and killing the dragon (if she's there) is easy.

So, imo, we need to set out and find the volcano island. I can't imagine a portal to the nether won't be on a damn volcano. Once there, we need to make a rail system or just markers back to spawn, depending on how far it is. Bring up a bunch of beds and set our spawn just outside the portal.

Then do it.

As to the mob grinder, imo we don't need one. The time it takes to create one that spawns at any decent speed is immense, and without creative very frustrating to build.

I think we can at least find the portal today.
