Hahaha, some people are just being silly about the trailer:

Quote

Well-Educated Pan-Asian Communist Kenyan Crypto-Islamic Terrorist hijacks American iconography and military might to enact sinister agenda, must be stopped by a hawkish true patriot capitalist ubermensch, unfairly maligned for his failure to fully prevent massive loss of life in a prior attack on New York City.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Good trailer. Not much revealed about the plot, just shot after shot of awesomeness.

So looking forward to this. I just hope it isn't SPIDER-MAN 3 with armor.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Yah pretty sweet. On the other hand, that's something I might have wanted to be surprised by as I actually watched the movie. I hope movie trailer editors are all eventually locked away to starve a few days, and then impaled lengthwise rotisserie style and roasted, so that the scent of their own cooking flesh whets their appetites.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I actually agree, but in this case I'm not really angry or anything, because I already knew about that part.

As much as I want to watch the "teaser" I try to avoid all trailers and hyle of movies I want to see. The art of the teaser has been lost, many a decent movie has been, if not ruined, lessened for me due to fucking trailers that literally show all the best parts.

when I'm a rich movie producer I'll show them a thing or two about marketing.

While I'm down to see this movie I'm confused why we re getting it after Avengers. I'd so rather see them all onscreen again esp after the end credits clip of A. I shouted out in joy seeing Thanos.

Perhaps if you look into the concept of Marvel's "Phase 1" and "Phase 2" and so forth movie releases. Essentially, a series of interlinked movies focusing on the specific characters leading up to one "Avengers"-style film where all the heroes get together for a joint outing. I.e. "Phase 1" (which was totally not planned from the outset, imo...) is Ironman 1/2, Thor, Captain America and the Incredible Hulk capped off by the Avengers.
Ironman 3 is the first of the "Phase 2" movies. You can't just go straight to the next combined forces movie without first establishing some of the new characters and giving the others a bit of character development. XD

So...yeah. That's why.

SO. MUCH. THIS.

It's particularly bad in comedies where it's becoming a really, very-very bad sign if you laugh too much at the trailers...'cause they just showed you all the best jokes/moments. *sigh*

The 'boys' was s widely spoiled that they probably figured there was no reason to keep it secret. And the trailer may spoil the fact, but the visual is just barely hinted at and guaranteed to leave people wanting more, which is the point.

It's a Marvel comics flic after all, not Sixth Sense or Usual Suspects.

I hadn't heard about that, but seeing it didn't spoil things for me. Actually got me pumped to see what all those different suits can do.

This theory does not bode well for that Melissa McCarthy/Sandra Bullock cop movie, since there were zero laughs in the trailer.

Actually, they are planning on showing a 1-minute Thanos segment at the end of up through Avengers 5 (like a 5 minute mini-movie total), culminating with his main appearance in Avengers 6 in 2020.

Avengers 6 will only come out in 2027.

Thanos might get an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm certain he'll at least be mentioned.

Possibly he'll get a cameo in Thor 2 as well, given that the Infinity Gauntlet is currently in Valhalla.

We'll probably get a little more of him next year with the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Yeeeeeaaaah.....*le sigh* but this is about Iron Man 3, so let us leave THAT for another thread.

As someone whos only comic book experience is reading things on this site and letting my blue link syndrome take over on wikipedia, I have no idea what the Guardians of the Galaxy are, other than I read a review saying there going to be a bit of a gamble as theyre not as well known as the Phase 1 Marvel characters.

While I like the idea of all these movies and will surely go and watch them all does anyone else think all it will take is one flop to make these plans halt? Ive just had a look at the estimated budget for each film and each one cost 140 million, with even the least financially successful one making 100 mil on its budget. I know Avengers was uber financially successful but what if the next Captain America film doesnt make its budget back and everything else other than Iron Man is mediocre at the box office? Surely theyll do Avengers 2 and it will probably be a financial success but any plans after that are relying on superhero films not being old news surely?

As I said I dont know that much on the subject but the studios seem to be relying on the current trend sticking for a good number of years. Though maybe its not about superhero films as they are all (bar Iron Man 2 IMO) really good films in their own right.

Maybe, but let's be honest the superhero craze has been pretty much going constantly since X-Men in 2000 (arguably even before that since Blade in 1998), so they have grounds to think the trend will continue. This is despite several flops such as Catwoman. Whether one flop will kill the entire plan in general? Probably not. If Avengers 2 flops they may not, but even if a few of the individual ones tank they may be hoping Avengers 2 will invigorate the Marvel franchise.

Iron Man 2 was really good in my opinion. The weakest of the recent Marvel Universe movies has to be The Incredible Hulk. Thor was lighter weight than the others, but delivered very well on its "goofy adventures of a god" theme, so I rate it higher.

The gamble is not so much in the characters not being known, but in the characters being the most outlandish out of all the movies. Specifically Rocket Raccoon. There is only so much that the audience will accept, and I do not think the broader audience would be willing to have a talking space critter which seems to equate with a Jar-Jar-Binks occupation. It's too much. The gamble then further endangers the Avengers 2 (at least potentially so). Thanos is assumed to be the big villain... but can he be taken seriously if he is defeated/hindered/even cares about a bazooka wielding rodent you expect to be stealing pizza crusts from the local trash can? Which goes into your main point:

I imagine Iron Man 3 is going to set the stage for the rest of Phase 2. If people like it, they'll be willing to check out the other movies, or rather they will trust Marvel Studios more. If it is viewed as crap or not as good, that will take the steam out of Thor 2, and it'll go down the line. Essentially, their A game will need to be working over time so that when people say "What the bloody f**K was THAT?!" to Guardians of the Galaxy, it'll be just a hic-up and not indicative of a decreasing quality in the franchise.
