Be careful of even subtle hints at spoilers there, Ultor.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

I just came in to say that MOI is my second favorite after Midnight Tides.

I just finished MoI, as part of my reread, and the part that got me the most wasn't Whiskeyjack's death itself (which already had tears crawling down my cheeks), but this:
The tears unleashed, streamed out of my eyes. This is the part that struck right through me.
Quote
The healer, Mallet, strode straight to where Whiskeyjack's body lay.
Gruntle saw the healer's eyes study the wounds, saw the truth strike home. The large man staggered back a step, arms wrapping around himself, and seemed to inwardly collapse. Dujek closed on him in time to take his weight, ease him into a sitting position on the ground.
Some wounds never heal, and that man has just taken such a wounding. Would that Dujek had left Whiskeyjack hidden beneath the rain-cape...

That whole book broke me on a reread, same with Deadhouse Gates, it just seemed to be more powerful the second time around.

its amazing how much i didnt know i didnt know the first time through. Having emotional ties to everything and everyone the second time through make it such a better book, and its amazing how emotional it can get you at times. I thought i was going to hate a reread and have absolutly love it so far.

I completely agree with you, Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice are filled with despair throughout the plot and both endings are such tearjerkers.
Nice to see another new reader!
God, this part. I was devastated! I expected Itkovian to have a large part in the ending with the Imass, but until the very end I'd hoped he'd survive.
I wonder if Duiker will appear in other books, I expect him in the fifth one, since I don't believe he survived all that torture just so he could tell the story and never appear again.

Chapter Twenty-Five
Beneath the rain, as darkness gathered, with every face raised to him, Itkovian closed himself about all that he held within him, closed himself, then fell back.
Back. Unblocked games: Happy Wheels online.
Because. I was the Shield Anvil. But now…
I am done.
And beneath the Moon's torrential rain, he died.

Me too! I was expecting Itkovian to live, as I mistakingly did with many characters . With Duiker, gah I know he'll appear again, but i don't know if he'll have a bigger role to play than just telling the story of the Chain of Dogs; the people he once loved are all dead. What other purpose does he have? :'(
Oh, it's Malazan Book of the Fallen! I just know he'll suck it up and take on some badass role.
... or it could be over for him. Actually, even if he doesn't appear later on, I think it would still be appropriate. Coltaine did defend Duiker until his very last breath because he needed to spread the story of Chain of Dogs. But telling it only in the tavern to the Bridgeburners is hardly enough.
Also, I hope to see more of Anaster/Toc. And I'm going to miss Tool!
Sorry, folks, but this board highly frowns upon enthusiasm and earnest emotion. You've both earned three demerits in this thread alone.

We do?
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.
