Well that was eventful. It's a shame I spent the day in pursuits of the mind. It does look like a good time was had by all... apart from the ersatz Macros and Mal's eyebrows.

To be honest, I never thought I'd see Cougar naked, with his nethers covered by an Irishman's face. Although it was probably always going to happen.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Bertrand Russell

It seems like you all had a great time - it's really a pity I couldn't make it up North this year... :(

Seeing what you did with Macros' poor cardboard clone is priceless. Seeing what Cougar did with it... um... asks for eye-bleach...

The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.

I'll echo the others in thanking Mal and Hetan wholeheartedly for hosting us all. Had a great time, and 'twas great to see everyone, even cardboard Macros!

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

I would imagine that to be a common occurrence these days actually..

Anyways, it was great being back at the bbq again. Spending time with Mal and Hazel is always a pleasure, and I even fund Jim tolerable this time around.

Shame that so many couldnt make it, but the ones that did are all great people so it worked out all the same

Just read the rest of my texts,
I'll not even pretend to understand the context but they made me laugh.
What's the lobes about?"

The lobes - Mrs Paleman said something along the lines that she thought you were really lovely when Cougar was texting you and your reply to Cougar said that you lobed my wife - an obvious typo but keep your dangling ear bits away from her! :-) :-) Made us laugh!

new papeman said nothing of the like!
She said I was scaring the fuck out of her!

Further recollections, I labeled cougar a tubby ginger Zak Galafinakis wannabe, quite proud of that particular insult

Did you say he looked like a hobo who spent all his time at a soup kitchen that specialised in ice cream soup?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Just waved goodbye to the last of our house guests.
Thank you to all who came - it was awesome as always - better in some ways for the fewer numbers - quality not quantity ;)

I did have a bit of a start when I woke up the next morning and turned to my hubby - only to find that it was Mezla :p
That was a bit disturbing as I didn't think either of us had been THAT drunk ;)
Fortunately Mal was on the scene with the coffee and an explanation almost immediately - phew! He can be very chivalrous at times which some of you might not believe.

The fire breathing contest and the desecration of Macros were a fitting end to the evening - damn he didn't want to burn - it took a box of matches and a liberal dose of aquavit to achieve the desired effect and all we have left is the head and a thumb - they will be buried honourably of course.

I've got some pics but unfortunately they are mostly eye-bleeding almost-naked Cougar pics and I think I can spare you any more of that.

Edit to add : Illy's absence was commented on and mainly took the form of :-

"Has the chicken been this good every year?"
"There's chicken?"
Ooh - we get chicken? I don't think I've had chicken here before".
"He was not a modest man. Contemplating suicide, he summoned a dragon". (Gothos' Folly)- Gothos

Thanks guys for an awesome introduction to the Malazan BBQ. Lovely to meet you/ see you all! Great food, good beer and stunning weather. The light show alone was worth the train down, though I did see a lot more of the pet cougar than I'm used to in public. I hope someone remembers the lists of best characters, best scenes and characters you want to kill, drunkenly compiled by the fire.

Massive thanks to Bill and Hazel for hosting another brilliant bbq (and, more to the point, for putting up with us all!) Also, huge thanks to Mrs Paleman for letting me get my luaghing gear round her enormous and delicious sausage. ;) I even managed to pick up a tiny bit of colour this year - that colour of course being the traditional English rosy pink nose and cheeks, but it still counts! The story of Mojo in the bathtub will haunt me forever though....
