Depends on point of origin?
maybe not, there aren't any border controls afaik, although there is passport control for flights coming from outside the uk, maybe thats where they catch it

Is the UK strict on holiday visas? I really have no idea on this front

Morgoth: I admit that I exaggerated, mostly it's limited to how long I can stay, but go to England I DO need a visa. I checked just yesterday.

Maccy: yes, it is, at least for people like me. I doubt it'd be difficult to get one if I just want to stay for a few days, but it's a hassle to collect all the papers and stuff. And it costs me as much as the flights there and back.

I have permission to live and work in Germany, but my passport is not EU issued, it's ukrainian.

interesting, I figured, as morgy did, any EU visa covered you for all, but it must just be the any EU passport.

I am standing in a position that would suggest correction

You'd probably be okay if we were part of the Schengen Agreement, because then it wouldn't matter where you came from as long as it was another Schengen country... But because the UK has historically been run by a bunch of xenophobes, we're not in it and probably never will be.

So yeah...

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. ...Ah.

According to my calendar, within four weeks of the BBQ this year I have three weddings (two of which I'm best man for) and two stag dos, and all the shit that goes with them.

This might be the first modern incarnation BBQ I can't go to and this pains me greatly.

So, would that mean UK Border Agency had to find another excuse for the queues at Heathrow if we were part of Schengen?

HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Also, it's the last one we'll be having.

If the tradition is to continue, someone else needs to pick up the torch.

Which is not to say that we won't try to coaxe Toby, Cougar, Mezla, stonemonkey, Dag, , Mr. B, Morgoth, Illy, Fid, etc. ( in no particular order and I'm sure I've missed some) to come for a BBQ but there will be no more open invitations.

But if it's going to be the last one, it must needs be an (even more than usual) awesome one! And someone better bloody well be picking up the torch. :)

Sorry to hear that but totally understandable! I don't know how you both kept up the generosity and hospitality for as many years as you have!!

I won't be picking up the torch unless everyone is up for an annual indoor, one roomed BBQ with room to sleep on the street outside!! Maybe an annual London summer meet up instead.......?

That is sad to hear indeed... but the lucky few who were allowed to join in while it was going would like to say thanks very much for the years that you did have the BBQ.

One of my fav times i spent ever in the UK.

Now if only i had not booked all my leave for vegas... and hadnt booked flights already :)

I must confess to a certain level of disappointment at the thought of never being able to (dis)grace the Casa del Hetan y Mal ever again. :)

Still, marvellous effort that, top shelf.

Many thanks for not throwing me out. :)
