Bethesda just released a cinematics trailer for the game:
We still don't have any proper gameplay footage but there is a bit of ingame footage in this interview:
This is supposed to be a mix of Thief, Deus Ex and Half-life set in a steam punk world.
It sounds interesting but the fact that they still haven't shown us proper gameplay footage worries me a bit.

Been looking forward to this one for a while. Arkane's a fantastically underrated developer, Arx Fatalis was awesome and Dark Messiah - for all its flaws - has some of the most fun melee combat I've ever seen, and is a game I still replay once a year or so. Thief x Arx Fatalis x Hitman sounds good to me. Here's hoping Bethesda doesn't muck it up, but they're usually pretty good with the developers under their control. My one real worry is that Arkane are biting off a little more than they can chew, but they've shown a real love for this kind of game several times over, and they're bound to have matured as a developer in the last few years. Bethesda's financial help might be just the boost they need to pull off something really great.

They have the concept artist from Half-life 2 and one of the original Thief developers working on the game a long with Bethesdas guidance. It could work.
But then I think of Brink and Rage.

I've been waiting for more on this game for a good while now
I too am a little worried about how it will turn out, but I plan to remain optimistic till I've good reason to do doubt other than pessimism.

don't forget "Hunted: the Demon's Forge"... frankly, Beth's track record as publishers is far from stellar.
That being said, I've seen and read a bunch of interviews with the devs, and they are making a 90's ambition-level game, and they know it. They are basically industry veterans when it comes to making this kind of environment-sensitive, multi-possibility games--the designers' combined pedigree includes System Shock, Thief, Deus Ex, Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah of M&M. , which is nearly a shortlist of all games to have ever tried anything similar. Essentially, if anyone can pull it off, it's these guys.

I guess the main thing is that while Hunted and and Brink weren't fabulous, I don't think that's Beth's fault.
From what I understand, they bankrolled it and gave the dev's fairly free reign. The games didn't turn out great, but that's down to the dev's not Beth making bad decisions (obviously beyond not picking good enough devs for it).
That's all as I unnderstand it, and I could be wrong...

Well, I don't really have much of a problem with Zenimax as publishers. Unless they actually canned Prey 2. then I will be VERY upset.

That's one of the very few trailers I've seen in my life that's actually fucking awesome.

That trailer fucking rocks. I've been looking forward to this game for ages, hoping it would be good. That gives me much help.
Mentalist - I fucking hate seller based in game bonuses. So very much. And I am really hoping they generally remain rare in this country (or even stop being done at all)...

They are releasing this in the middle of October? That's actually pretty brave of them. I would have expected something like an August or September release, this being a new IP and concept being unconventional. They are throwing this game in with the big boys to see if it will sink or swim. Either they are very confident in the game or they don't care.
