Yoshitane Ashikaga felt it necessary to react over the defeat of his Kamakura Kubo (chapter 2) in order to regain some respect for the Ashikaga clan. He set about on an offensive and experienced a brief triumph by winning a battle against Tokkaku Takayori. However, with dwindling support for the Shogun, primarily caused by the Ashikaga disgrace in the East, Yoshitane was forced into a confrontation with the Hosokawa.
The Ashikaga were defeated.
Yoshitane fled from Kyoto, and new influences began to worm their way into the ancient capital.
The year is now 1500, and Go-Kashiwabara has become Emperor.
The Imperial Household by this time held only a small remnant of power, but enough to still be considered important. However, the Emperor, his Kuge and Kugyon (Ministers) were essentially broke. There wasn't even enough money for a proper coronation. With the Ashikaga gone, many Imperial Ministers began accepting bribes from influential clans from outside of Kyoto, who wished to gain some influence within the court.
This is the setting for the first Sengoku Interlude.
Town
Town is Go-Kashiwabara and his Ministers.
Go-Kashiwabara is (alt). He cannot be lynched, killed, or recruited.* He can, however, vote as well as count towards Town's numbers.
The Imperial Court must eliminate the ability of outsiders to influence the household in order to win the game.
Scum
Scum are primarily Recruiters, attempting to bribe ministers away from the new Emperor. A scum faction must achieve numerical superiority over both town and the other scum faction(s?) to win.
