If you really want to visite the crazy parts of The Economist, check out the comment sections on any article discussing China.

Or even worse. Check out the comment section of any article discussing the relationship between India and China.

I despair for the future of the region.

I rarely read The Economist on line. It is mostly my bathroom mag.. :)

This is a interesting report on Sheldon Adelson. It is from a left wing think tank but worth a look through.

Sheldon Adelson

Remember that he is currently under investigation by the DOJ for bribery of a foreign official.

And a good point from the comments, as to why he would use an IRA when he could get carried interest rates if he didn't:

As opposed to income tax rates:

By the way, this is part of why I like to read the comments. :)

Looks like Obama is clearly moving into pole position. We can all breath a sigh of relief. Is it still unrealistic to talk about him bringing the congress with him and gaining the ability to act?

Uhhhhhhhh.... there are less than two handfuls of Congressional races that are really close and right now, things are tipping Democratic, but perhaps not enough to get any majority, much less a decisive majority that lets really big stuff get passed quickly and unadulterated.

I personally keep trying to pretend that it's possible, but phib is right, there is a chance we won't get a majority in either house, and the absolute most we'll get in the Senate for example is 57 or so. Not enough to kill a filibuster. I mean, all sorts of weird things could happen between now and November, but chances are very slim. So maybe 2014 will be a different story and Obama will get two years to do stuff; that happens sometimes.

PS—Also, Obama's poll position at the moment is largely reflective of his DNC bump. Yes, it's significant that he got a decent one and Romney apparently didn't. But convention bumps don't generally last very long.

One down note for the DNC: the images of the battleships behind a retired (active duty cannot engage in politics publicly) admiral who spoke at the DNC were Russian.

Well it looks like Romney has stepped into it again. Thus time trying to use the killing of a US ambassador as political fodder except it is backfiring.

ABC News

Completely bungled.

Facts schmacks, there are political points to be gained.

This whole thing makes me sick. First, how retarded the whole thing is, secondly the attack in Benghazi was almost certainly a planned attack.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Yeah. They over whelmed the force there pretty quickly. The Ambassador probably wasn't the target. There was a information officer call Smith who was killed and not taken to a hospital. Also the attacks just happen to coincide on 9/11. Nothing to see here move along...

Kind of peripheral, but is it just me or is absolutely no article on these events actually naming the movie in question?

The Innocence of Muslims or whatever brought to you by Muslim hating Egyptian expatriates and Terry Jones of Koran burning fame that was on YouTube.

It. Is. Retarded.

The fanatical Imams in Egypt convinced their people that this is an American Government funded and sponsored response to 9/11.

Hate doesn't need reason.

Ah okay, I was wondering if it was the Dinesh D'souza movie (which did become the second highest grossing political documentary of all time after F9/11) because that would at least lend some weight to the anger, in its popularity. Terry Jones should be a non-entity (not even just in relative terms), but you're right about the hate thing.

By the way, in the chain of headlines on these events I ended up at Politico. I wouldn't recommend delving into the comments there. (Usually Facebook comments are a bad sign.) I feel like I need to go dunk my head in a bucket of soapy water now. (Not a regular Politico reader.)

As a general rule the comments are better at places with a bit of a learning curve. You know, like Malazan Empire, or The Economist. :D NYT and WSJ are far more sane than Politico, for example, but they are really not far above middling. Huffington Post type places are middling. I do read Politico-type comments sometimes just to remind myself that there are idiot liberals too, but that's about as deep as I like to go (which is somewhat below middling). Any lower than that is reserved for those occasional moods where crazy is entertaining.

Edit: worry, thanks for the pic. It goes well with Hillary's comments.
