Hegseth is going to jail. I don't know if he knows it yet, but he is.

Oh yeah. Especially if Donnie croaks it soon (he has had an especially unhinged couple of days on Truth and I've seen a lot of speculation he's had a stroke, possibly again, plus he's constantly doing cognitive tests) and let's face it when he does the empire will crumble and the infighting will be brutal. I expect Hegseth to think he's got the army behind him and then be rudely brought down to earth.

Quote

Late last night, the Trump administration released the 2025 National Security Strategy (NSS) of the United States of America.

The Trump administration's NSS announces a dramatic reworking of the foreign policy the U.S. has embraced since World War II.

[...] The authors of the document claim that the system of institutions like the United Nations, alliances like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and free trade between nations that established a series of rules for foreign engagement and a web of shared interests around the globe has been bad for the U.S. because it undermined "the character of our nation."

[...] It went on to make clear that this policy is a plan to help U.S. businesses take over Latin America and, perhaps, Canada.

[...] National security specialist Anne Applebaum wrote: "The new National Security Strategy is a propaganda document, designed to be widely read. It is also a performative suicide. Hard to think of another great power ever abdicating its influence so quickly and so publicly."

European Council on Foreign Relations senior fellow Ulrike Franke commented: "The transatlantic relationship as we know it is over. Yes, we kinda knew this. But this is now official US White House policy. Not a speech, not a statement. The West as it used to be no longer exists."

[...] Pentagon officials this week told European diplomats in Washington, D.C., that the U.S. wants Europe to take over most of NATO's defense capabilities by 2027.

- Political historian Heather Cox Richardson, Professor of History at Boston College

Meanwhile, over at the New York Times:

Quote

Trump's Security Strategy Focuses on Profit [...]

Latin American countries must grant no-bid contracts to U.S. companies. Taiwan's significance boils down to semiconductors and shipping lanes. Washington's "hectoring" of the wealthy Gulf monarchies needs to stop.

The world as seen from the White House is a place where America can use its vast powers to make money.

President Trump has shown all year that his second term would make it a priority to squeeze less powerful countries to benefit American companies. But [with the new NSS] his administration made that profit-driven approach a core element of its official foreign policy [...]

The strategy depicts Europe as facing "civilizational erasure" at the hands of immigrants and its mainstream leaders. It says the United States will cultivate "resistance" to Europe's mainstream leaders, and asserts that many of their governments "trample on basic principles of democracy to suppress [far-right, fascist, Neo-Nazi] opposition."

[...] The document says a war over Taiwan needs to be deterred because of what would be its "major implications for the U.S. economy." It calls for "a genuinely mutually advantageous economic relationship with Beijing,"

Because the 19th is coming up. The day the Epstein files must be released. No bigger distraction than a war.

More like an act of war. Pirates weren't an acknowledged entity with which diplomacy could be made.

This is just the US pissing off Venezuela (and the rest of the world) under the pretense of it being a piece of Iran's shadow fleet to move sanctioned oil. That provides all the justification they need to precipitate a much hoped for response.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Another poretty decent examination of Trump:

Donald Trump gives too much away in answer to seemingly innocuous question
Donald Trump has accidentally exposed himself with his revealing answer to a seemingly innocuous question.

America is a weird case though. Years of the modern equivalent of bread and circuses, and enforced dumbing down of the population as a whole has created a massive group of people who are not exactly deep thinkers, prickly proud of it, wary of actual smart people, science and real facts (not alternate facts). They voted for Trump because he tapped into that, for revenge against the other group who looked down on them a bit too obviously, and now they're doubling down out of pure spite and also a desire to get back to when they thought things were better. Nostalgia is subjective, not objective.
The Dems et al didn't help themselves when they hitched their flag to a lot of "modern" causes which were never going to fly well with conservative America either.
And now we have the most politically divided era in American history since the antebellum period through to the aftermath. You might even say until the Civil Rights act.

Trump says that Rob Reiner and his wife deserved to be killed because they didn't like Trump.

I mean we all know he's evil, but this may be the most vile shit he's ever posted.

Also, proof that all those Right wing shitheads reeling and demanding people be fired at people for not being sufficiently upset over Charlie Kirks death was the straight bullshit we all knew it was...because apparently it's perfectly fine for the sitting president to mock a husband and wife after their murder because they didn't care for him or his administration and voiced that opinion.

Do you remember when a deranged user posted an entire thread asking people to explain Kirk's murder to him like he was ten.

Wonder how many party poppers he's set off because daddy trump said to celebrate.

And then disappeared into the ether after the drive-by thread attack....yeah. Very typical of that person. He's been doing for years.

This is definitely not my area of legal expertise but am I right in thinking it has passed the time limit to submit it? Our courts and lawsuits are not like the sue-happy States that's for certain.

That's exactly it apparently. So they can flip him off and he can kick rocks. It will go nowhere.

He is past it in the UK courts which is why he's trying to bring it in Florida as it's still within the statute there. Except how would a Floridian court enforce against a British institution when it's outside of their jurisdiction? The whole thing is farcical.

The figure of $10b is ludicrous as well. He hasn't suffered that in reputational or pecuniary damage. Hell, just yesterday he was gloating over a man getting murdered because that man didn't like him. His reputation is already abortive.

Basically he's hoping they'll settle like all those American media companies did! I seriously hope they don't.

There'd be public outrage here if they did because it'd cost the British taxpayer.

Effectively the orange fash is trying to extort us as a country via the medium of the BBC.
