Is "MAL" Mar-a-Lago? It was the second White House last time, I guess it might as well be the second Pentagon this time.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Yeah, that was my assumption on what that abbreviation means.

It was even too much for some at Fox News:

Fox News Analyst Floored by Hegseth's Attempt to Deny Leak
Fox News political analyst Brit Hume [...] couldn't believe the response, writing [...] "Oh for God's sake, the administration has already confirmed the authenticity of the message."
Indeed, the National Security Council told Goldberg, in a statement, "This appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain."

Granted, Hegseth could try to claim that Goldberg was lying about that National Security Council statement... but they told the BBC the same thing:
Quote
A National Security Council spokesman told the BBC the text message thread "appears to be authentic".

Incompetence piled on incompetence... they'll probably try to fire (and worse) whoever was involved in those NSC statements.

Cannot even imagine Goldberg's thoughts as he began to realise what he was privy to! Golden.
And awful.
And Vance really doesn't like Europe does he.

The craziest line to me is the “kudos to all…. Especially to those in theatre”. This isn’t a real message, it’s performance theatre without an audience. You post that kind of crap on a Facebook wall to be seen posting it.
In this case Susie wiles can’t even pretend that someone in theatre or centcom could possibly see her message. It’s just such an ingrained habbit though that the performance is always on.

There's an element of aristocratic palace drama in hurrying to congratulate the shiny thing while someone important is looking.
The oddest thing about this is that Trump is mostly checked out other than photo ops. This isn't stuff he tracks or takes action on - Vance, Rubio are who's being suctioned.

If I recall, in his first admin his advisors all said they had to shorten intelligence and defence briefings because his attention span wandered too quickly, so this iso par for the course for the guy who can't be bothered to attend to the things that ACTUALLY govern...disgraceful.
Oh wait, now he's taking responsibility...

Goldberg and the Atlantic just released the whole shebang.
Good for them. Trump, Gabbard, and the rest of those shitbags claimed none of it was classified (reading it, seems pretty fucking classified to me) so let them now try to twist and wriggle out of it when the Senate Intelligence gets them in front of them again.
The US Marshals need to arrest these people, and they need to be tried for using an unsecured commercial app for top secret classified planning or a war strike.

Gabbard and (Trump's CIA Director) Ratcliffe were testifying to Congress under oath and are guilty of perjury if any of the information actually is classified... but the DoJ (currently under the control of Trump's minions) would have to bring the charge. And Trump could preemptively pardon them.
[Edit: the statute of limitations on perjury is 5 years, so if Trump doesn't preemptively pardon them and someone non-MAGA wins the presidency in 2028 then they could be prosecuted. But he's almost certainly going to pardon them. Unless he wants to hold it over them to blackmail them into doing his bidding even more than they already are.]

The last bit is key. Trump will pardon ANY and ALL of the people loyal to him who do illegal shit....and it's disgusting.

The sheer hypocrisy that is so unbelievably rampant just astounds me. How these people live with themselves is beyond me to imagine. I was listening to a Podcast about how we deal with cognitive dissonance and it had me thinking about these people. So I looked into it a bit. Because I'm truly baffled at how these people live this every day.
From Psychology Today on political cognitive dissonance:
Whether one political orientation is more prone to dissonance than the other may be an open and complicated research question. Republicans (not all of them) typically have a greater need for order and a greater aversion to ambiguity and inconsistency (Jost et al., 2003). One might think they would experience less dissonance because they would work harder to avoid it.
On the other hand, Republicans would feel greater discomfort from a smaller degree of unavoidable inconsistency. In addition, Republicans (not all of them) are typically more group-centric meaning more willing to follow each other and their leader and to criticize group members who don't (Stalder, 2009), which can lead them into more dissonance such as in supporting a leader's claims that they know to be false or dangerous.
But these Republican characteristics also provide immediate dissonance reducers in group-centric social support and in keeping their jobs by staying loyal to Trump, so any feelings of discomfort might not last long. The more politicians stick together within a party, the more the everybody-does-it defense can reduce their dissonance (Stalder, 2010).
They lie to themselves over and over and over again to justify their own behaviors, and are surrounded by other people doing the exact same thing thing.
Is it any wonder they can lie to everyone else so easily? Lies to yourself are easy to believe, especially when your buddy is telling the exact same lie. It's why they only get caught when they lie to everyone else and are then so taken-aback and utterly defensive about it. Convince yourself of the lie and you take away all cognitive dissonance. It's the reason it's a CULT.
Maybe, just maybe... we should elect and appoint people who exhibit a pattern of consistent truth-telling behavior, even if that is a mea-culpa.

From Psychology Today on political cognitive dissonance:
Quote
Of course, some admit their mistakes and even resign. And some have switched political sides even voicing the intention to make up for their perceived mistakes (Noor, 2020). This coming-clean mode of dissonance reduction can be called behavior change, but it is relatively rare. As I've written elsewhere (Stalder, 2018), dissonance reduction typically involves a number of biases in self-protection and self-presentation. People don't easily acknowledge negative truths about themselves.

Scary thing I just thought could happen...now that Goldberg and the Atlantic have released the whole thing...
Trump's admin and sycophants are so corrupt that they could very well charge Goldberg for the release of the information claiming it's classified, and then put him in jail....while Trump pardons everyone else involved. And the Republicans will dust their hands and call it a day....like the fact that they would openly and brazenly showcase a double standard like that seems too far-fetched and evil.,..but we have so many examples of that hypocrisy playing out that I could see them doing it.

FAKE NEWS.
"Sources" will be immediately discarded by the above. Someone needs to be willing to put their name on it, and even then, that person will be labeled a "peddler of smears and lies", "a Biden supporter who is totally against Trump and Making America Great Again", or something else completely bullshit.

"It's the Deep State"---and it probably is: which is to say, career military intelligence people who actually care about protecting classified information.
Unfortunately anyone who comes forward publicly is going to be purged and smeared. Though someone on the verge of retiring or resigning anyway might be willing to do it.
And the Trump administration will probably refuse to comply with judicial orders to consult the official records to determine whether it was classified or not.
