It can be boiled down to a simple question. Who profits if The USA and the EU are fighting? Putin.

On this side its being spined as this will only hurt americains as they require vast amounts of aluminum and steel in their various industries.

Unsure how the american new economists are talking about it, though i heard apparently the Kock brothers are starting to try and assert their influence against trump

So Medicare is going to run out of $$ as of 2026

And social security by 2034.

@ the left.. what’s your all solutions ?

@ Vengy: If the government says it’s happening. Guess so.

Can we just drop Medicare and Social Security completely at this stage and resolve a true fix now ... rather then fall right off a fiscal cliff.
-If it's ka it'll come like a wind, and your plans will stand before it no more than a barn before a cyclone

Stop cutting taxes on the rich and corporations, and then defunding social services?

Maybe start taxing long term capital gains as income?

Stop being dependent on the military industrial complex?

Maybe we could go ahead and offer fully socialized medicine to the entire country?

We could make primary medicine cheaper, allowing people to see GP's, allowing things to be handled before they become life threatening and costing thousands of dollars due to insurance?

Or we could go with the Right's solution which appears to be... relying upon charity to keep us away from Mad Max?

Or you could just shrug like Atlas and keep smoking your libertarian pipe dream, where you believe that the government can't be trusted, but multi-national corporations can, because no corporation has ever done anything bad ever, and all governments do is bad.

Whichever.

All the right-wing concern trolling over SS & Medicare is like the vampire asking why you look so pale.

Also, the claim of "insolvency" is an extreme (and deliberate) misinterpretation of the reports issued by the trustees, perpetrated by the usual ghouls who want to privatize everything and the incompetent journalists who always take their words at face value.

I'd advise reading this, which covers both the actual conclusions of the trustees (potential shortfalls) and their causes (e.g. worse than expected wage stagnation, for one; the recent tax theft bill the GOP passed, for another).

Last one seems solid. I'll buy that. Good sourcing.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Who picks a fight with Canada?

Good god lets turn allies into enemies and enemies into enemies who get what they want. That's the strategy.

I'm not even kidding when I say that I am 50% convinced that this is a real world "Hail Hydra" situation.

Either Trump is one of stupidest leaders in history or he is furthering his own and Russia's agenda at the cost off the entire Western World.

Watching this trade war unfold really makes me wonder about the history books that will be written 20-50 years from now.

Assuming writing still exists by then.

I'll just postulate here, if I may, that this isn't necessarily an either/or proposition.

It is idiocy, not a master plan by Trump. Maybe Putin, though.

He "doesn't need to prepare" for North Korea summit in Singapore. That says everything. He doesn't care he's ignorant.

Okay, Nico. Explain how rising production costs and businesses closing in America benefits the American people?

How does unravelling 70 years of diplomacy and destabilizing America's relationship with it's allies make Amercia great again?
